Hillary Clinton, style icon? The unexpected inspiration for womens spring fashion
By Robin Givhan September 16 at 12:57 PM
NEW YORK The designer Derek Lam was perched on a wooden chair in a penthouse suite of the Greenwich Hotel that looked as though it had been air-lifted from Santa Fe. Dressed in white jeans and a dark shirt, he was describing the inspiration for his spring 2017 collection, and the words that he used again and again were strong and independent.
Specifically, hed been inspired by Georgia OKeeffe, the artist who was so often described as handsome, a polite way of saying that she was not a great beauty. But that striking face of hers, alongside her formidable body of work, made her an icon nonetheless.
It was her strength, off-putting at first but eventually embraced, that captivated Lam, he explained. And there it was at last in this citys hectic fashion week, when audiences couldnt even be sure whether theyd be seeing fall clothes or spring ones on the runway finally, a thread that connected so many disparate collections.
Strength.
In the latest round of fashion shows that ended Thursday, there were countless iterations of mens shirting, various shades of orange and a surge in platform shoes. Proenza Schouler, in particular, dazzled the eye with hand-woven dresses, canvas and leather jackets, and an intarsia mink coat that looked great no matter what season its intended for.
So go ahead and invest in oversized shirts and and blazers because that trend isnt going away. Pants are still roomy, the dresses are emblazoned with prints and the fabrics range from lace to velvet.

One of the funniest TV moments EVER.
.
Lucy in that potato sack still looked better than Cankles.
She pays 12000 dollars for her horse blanket.
Omar the tent maker will do it for 120 dollars.
I think she got cheated, but what the hell I suspect the Clinton Foundation picked up the tab :)
When, pray tell, was Rodham/Clinton EVER stylish?
Energetic when throwing ash trays, lamps, whatever, and of course, coming back for the smoke after stealing hot stoves.
No matter how many times I watch that sketch, I still laugh so hard I cry. It never gets old.
Hillary a style icon, eh? Maybe Mao jackets will be popular again.
ROFL
So true. I was on the floor. The actors, the camera crew, the audience, all of America was on the floor. Boy did they trigger a memorable moment. Sheer genius - and no swearing.

"......The Boston Whaler Pot Holder look...."
Actually, there are lines that carry the “wide leg” look. Just do a search on “women’s pants wide leg”.
(Not a good look for me, BTW. I always look for boot cut.)
My first observation is that very few of the outfits pictured resemble the housecoats and poorly fitting pantsuits that Hillary is given to wearing. However, few of the outfits are attractive, either.
My second observation is that "strong and powerful" women wouldn't be wearing most of the outfits on display. The outfits shown are for urbanites who dress for show, don't walk a lot, and when they do, it's on smooth pavement and floors. I can't imagine any active woman wearing most of those fashion offerings. Presumably, a strong and powerful woman is out doing things, so she will be wearing practical clothes, not clothes dreamed up by New York designers that are anything but practical.
Most of those designer offerings are just plain ugly and bizarre. Does anyone outside of New York (and maybe LA) ever wear them?
Yeesh. Does that gown tie in the back??
I want to look cool and hip like Hillary. Going to grab some housedresses from thrift stores!
I’ve seen models on the runway wearing a wrinkled pair of plaid pajama pants under a hospital smock. I’ve gotta get some outfits like this. Nothing looks better on a woman. The neurodegenerative look is hard to achieve just so. Hillary has seized that trend so well.
The Lesbian Rainbow?
And it wasn’t long after, Mikel Gorbechav attended a much publicized Russian fashion show which featured really hot, young babes dancing with little more than g-strings. I have to admit, it was eye-opening (no pun intended).
Lord, I had forgotten how funny that commercial was.
