Just hours after the Washington Post published an interview with Donald Trump in which he refused to acknowledge that President Barack Obama was born in the United States, the Trump campaign released a statement saying that the Republican presidential candidate "believes" Obama was born in the U.S.
"Having successfully obtained President Obama's birth certificate when others could not, Mr. Trump believes that President Obama was born in the United States," read the statement.
In the Washington Post interview, published on its website at 7:34 p.m., refused to say whether he believed that Obama was born in the U.S.
"I'll answer that question at the right time," Trump said. "I just don't want to answer it yet."
Despite the Republican presidential candidate's reluctance to acknowledge that Obama was born in the U.S. -- he released his long-form Hawaii birth certificate in 2011 -- Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway has said in recent interviews that Trump does indeed believe the president is born in the U.S.
When asked if Conway's assertion was accurate, Trump told the newspaper, "It's okay. She's allowed to speak what she thinks. I want to focus on jobs. I want to focus on other things."
Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, a Trump surrogate, also recently said Trump believes Obama is born in the U.S.
The Republican presidential candidate continued, "I don't talk about it anymore. The reason I don't is because then everyone is going to be talking about it as opposed to jobs, the military, the vets, security."
Trump was asked if his courtship of African-Americans could be stymied by the birther issue and "hang over his candidacy." His response? "I think it hangs over the reporters."

Exactly right. Wrong time. Foged aboud et...
To use a quote, at this point, what does it matter !
Yeah, gotta pick ‘em.
Shame, seen reports Hawaii wasn’t all that careful about their BCs back then.
Obama was spending over a million dollars in court over his birth issue.
CNN believes this to be big news. Why?
“Can’t fight every battle. This isn’t a battle Trump should pursue. Good decision. Keep the momentum going!”
The media is doing everything it can to attack Trump and get the focus away from Hillary. Good move on Trump’s part.
My guess is that they see the black vote trending positively and they don’t want to interrupt that trend.
Official press release - https://www.donaldjtrump.com/press-releases/trump-campaign-statement
“Mr. Trump did a great service to the President and the country by bringing closure to the issue that Hillary Clinton and her team first raised. Inarguably, Donald J. Trump is a closer.”
Holy ****!! ROFL!!!
After Trump is elected President the question that can be asked in a trial is whether CNN’s actions over the years have given aid and comfort to the enemy.
Wow. Who made that statement?
I bet they still use it against him you watch.
Once again this drama started due to questions from the Washington post.
The birth cert issue is not about where it’s about who. Who’s the daddy? Frank Marshal Davis.
HANG THE REPORTERS!
Picking one’s battles is the key to victory!
Some in the MSM will bring this up again simply to try and damage Trump. His campaign should just ignore it.
My question has always been, if, back in 2007 or 2008 when the question was first raised (by Hillary and others), why didn’t Obama do what any rational person with a valid BC would have done? Just produced the BC and end it all.
Either he had no valid BC, or he deliberately wanted to keep the issue alive to try and make others look silly, or racist, if they continued to raise the question.
But, of course, I doubt Obama has ever even been asked why he didn’t just produce a valid BC years ago, if he had one.
Jason Miller, these guys are SO GOOD :)
He is not takin the bait, a few months ago he probably would have, good for him and bad for hillary/media
