Seahawks to stand for anthem, with arms interlocked

The Seahawks have announced their plans for Sunday’s pregame ceremony. According to receiver Doug Baldwin, they will stand together during the national anthem. They will do so with their arms interlocked. “We are a team comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds, and as a team we have decided to stand and interlock arms in unity,” Baldwin says in the 42-second video posted at his Twitter page. “We honor those who have fought for the freedom we cherish, and we stand to ensure the riches of freedom and the security of justice for all people. Progress can and will be made only if we stand together.

The idea is to show respect for our country, anthem and flag. There is no need to do something new in place of either protesting or showing respect. Just show respect.

At some point, this just turns into paranoia. They're standing for the anthem and they've said they intend to honor the people who've fought for our freedom. That's good enough for me, but I suspect nothing they do will satisfy some folks.
