The BND, Germanys version of the CIA, has been accused of massive breaches of the constitution in a leaked report by the governments representative for data protection.
The BND [Bundesnachrichtendienst] systematically lifted and used personal data without a legal basis to do so, wrote Federal Data Protection Commissioner Andrea Voßhoff in a report seen by public broadcasters NDR and WDR.
Voßhoff is responsible for ensuring that government agencies do not infringe on German citizens legal rights when using their personal data.

Sounds like the most recent season of “Homeland.”
Are they spending most of their time monitoring Muslims or anti-immigrant groups? Since the article mentions that they got some of their phone lists from the NSA, I’d like to believe it’s the former.

The stasi were pikers. Every two days, the NSA collects the data that the stasi amassed over its 40 year history....900 million to a billion pages.
You just have to ask yourself if the NSA’s bulk data collection was for the former or the latter to figure out the answer.
Just imagine the Stasi having the NSA’s technology.

You are kidding yourself if you think numerous lives aren’t destroyed by our mass domestic surveillance. Our intel is not some benign data gathering group.
And it is mostly aimed squarely at us, not at terrorists. That should be unmistakably clear to everyone by now.
