In the first Seahawks game since San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sat during the national anthem last Friday, one Seattle player followed suit Thursday cornerback Jeremy Lane.
Lane sat throughout the anthem before Seattles final preseason game Thursday at Oakland.
It was not immediately clear if Lane was showing solidarity with Kaepernick or had other reasons. The team had no immediate comment.
Teammates did not appear to react in any way to Lane, other than Richard Sherman, who sat next to Lane and chatted with him briefly after the anthem ended. Lane then got up and played at cornerback during the first series of the game.
Lane is a fifth-year veteran from Northwestern (La.) State who was drafted by Seattle in the fifth round in 2012. He signed a new four-year deal worth $23 million in March after having been an unrestricted free agent. He is competing for the starting job as the starting right cornerback but also serves as the teams primary nickelback.
Lane is from Tyler, Texas.
No other players on either side appeared to sit.
The anthem was performed by Mike Phillips, a saxophonist who has performed with Prince, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.
Lanes action did not appear to draw much of a reaction from spectators, though given the location of the bench many may not have noticed. Lane was the last Seahawk to take the field for the second half, doing so after play had resumed (starters had already been removed) and jogged lightly in front of the end zone crowd to get back to the Seattle bench. But there didnt appear to be any visible reaction from those in attendance.

>> This is really not about football, or even about these two idiots. Its about how nations die.
Not exactly. It IS about the cowardly NFL commission and the BLM idiots it’s placating.
But how many frogs in the pot will continue to support the backstabbing NFL?
Just another sign that America is turning into the land of the free and the home of the stupid. And to think that men and women lost their lives defending the rights of these losers.
Wrong Pete. He's talking about Pete Carrol, the coach of the Seahawks, not the late Pete Rozelle.
Stop watching the game on TV.
Start throwing eggs at these pukes.
Rotten, putrid elites are in charge of football.
take the attention away from there whores..
The liberals have wanted to destroy football and now they have help from within.
I started my own boycott last night.
I am hoping for another Super Bowl run.
I would also like to see the return of equal application of law, but that may be hoping too much.
Arseholes, sit down and be counted!
and Tebow gets ridiculed.
Good is evil - evil is good!
Let’s not forget to stop purchasing NFL team paraphernalia at the local sporting goods store and online like NFL.com.
And let those in charge know exactly why.
Tell Nike and Under Armour you’ll buy Adidas unless they put pressure on these thugs to smarten up.
so much for team work, unity, one for all and all for one - the attributes we used to teach kids leads to winning.
I am fine with a Super Bowl run. I am also fine if any of these thugs blow their knees out.
Take all your US hating friends, along with Babs, Whoopi and DeCaprio with you!
Weak-minded fool.
I'd have said 'monkey-see-monkey-do' but that could be construed as racist.
Aw, screw it. Just another case of 'monkey-see-monkey-do'.
