In the first Seahawks game since San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sat during the national anthem last Friday, one Seattle player followed suit Thursday cornerback Jeremy Lane.
Lane sat throughout the anthem before Seattles final preseason game Thursday at Oakland.
It was not immediately clear if Lane was showing solidarity with Kaepernick or had other reasons. The team had no immediate comment.
Teammates did not appear to react in any way to Lane, other than Richard Sherman, who sat next to Lane and chatted with him briefly after the anthem ended. Lane then got up and played at cornerback during the first series of the game.
Lane is a fifth-year veteran from Northwestern (La.) State who was drafted by Seattle in the fifth round in 2012. He signed a new four-year deal worth $23 million in March after having been an unrestricted free agent. He is competing for the starting job as the starting right cornerback but also serves as the teams primary nickelback.
Lane is from Tyler, Texas.
No other players on either side appeared to sit.
The anthem was performed by Mike Phillips, a saxophonist who has performed with Prince, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.
Lanes action did not appear to draw much of a reaction from spectators, though given the location of the bench many may not have noticed. Lane was the last Seahawk to take the field for the second half, doing so after play had resumed (starters had already been removed) and jogged lightly in front of the end zone crowd to get back to the Seattle bench. But there didnt appear to be any visible reaction from those in attendance.

Agreed. Only a massive financial boycott of the NFL and its sponsors will force the league to put a stop to this. It would be nice if some big named conservatives and patriots push a NFL boycott to give it a chance to succeed!
I haven’t been to a game in 3 years. I use to be fanatical.
Im done with these overpaid losers. It’s turned into nothing but a time suck.
LOL. The wife and I are changing teams. We followed Kap from Reno to the 49ers. She threw the Seahawks out there...
There’s no acceptable rationale for this churlish behavior.
Boot them out of the game and off the team.
It will suddenly become very out of fashion. We’ve seen it happen before, many of us. When non-drinker Bush moved into the WH the whole city whinged about how boring everything was under the Bushes.
And Reagan got everything turned around, but we had to face a stiff recession first, and his political status was questionable, for a while.
The NFL is out of control. There is a certain behavior expected by every organization’s employees. Is the behavior in question expected by this employer (standing respectfully during the national anthem) or is it not? The NFL needs to make that decision. I hope they make the right one.
In regards to what the players wear, there should be no stickers/emblems/body expressions that promote any brand, a use or person allowed while on duty. Zero tolerance.
This is common sense business protocol for every employee across the nation. Stop treating athletes like playing sports gives them special rights .. that’s what they get paid to do, play on a team that is a business.
...brand, CAUSE or person allowed...
Lincoln’s idea of repatriation to Africa would have saved this country so much grief.
Nope. He's one of the starters.
His personal behavior is contradictory to what his fellow defense players preach - one team.
It will be interesting to see how they (the defense backs) deal with this.
Come on, Pete. Do something about this crap.
Man did your post nail it

I'm sure that Rozelle would have lowered the boom on this panty-waist in short order. Unfortunately, the putz currently running the show is too busy worrying about important things like footballs that for some reason follow the laws of nature to care about trivial things like Copper-Nickel insulting most of the NFL fan base or the Giants' kicker practicing on his ex-wife.
But, he lines the pockets of his employers, the team owners, quite well, so they are only too happy to look the other way.
Thank goodness baseball season is in full bloom and the post-season will last long enough for the NHL to start playing again.
Dumb and Dumber is too kind a description for these two.
I saw on Fox News tonight that Krap-Knucklehead wore socks to practice that had images of cartoon pigs on them. What a POS.
The placating, anti-American NFL commission can go to Hell.
The only thing that will become out of fashion is our national anthem if the NFL doesn’t put a stop to this nonsense!!
The only way the league will see the light and put a stop to this disrespect of our anthem is after massive financial loss and complaints from sponsors! Got to let then know patriotic Americans will no longer tolerate this out of the NFL and vote with our wallets!
This took about two and a half years.
The only article of clothing I’ve ever bought in my life that had a team emblem on it was a Detroit Tigers away ball cap in 1983.
Yep. And it will be brought under control...
