The Veterans Affairs Department quietly moved this month to ban flying of Confederate flags from fixed flagpoles at the cemeteries it runs, striking yet another blow against the controversial emblem.
Congress had debated and rejected that change, but the Obama administration decided to move forward anyway, saying it was unilaterally imposing the restrictions.
In particular, we will amend our policy to make clear that Confederal flags will not be displayed from any permanently fixed flagpole in a national cemetery at any time, wrote Ronald E. Walters, under secretary for memorial affairs at the VA.

I agree. No foreign flag should fly at national cemeteries.
Confederate veterans were declared American by Congress decades ago.Get over it.
Why not? A couple of slave states fought for the Union, and Jim Crow existed under the US flag.
The freaks who attack our culture and history underestimate how meaningless the current symbols are to many of us. Muslims view our flag as a symbol of “gay marriage” and godlessness; why do you think it is so easy to make the link?
Ya’ got that right...
You are seriously mistaken. I did not serve in the military to have someone fly a flag flown while killing Americans, loyal Americans defending OUR flag. In this regard there is absolutely no difference between the Nazi flag and the Confederate flag. This has nothing whatsoever to do with being PC or not. It is purely a matter of American patriotism. Sorry you instead wish to devalue and denigrate the lives given to defend America for you political digs. Shame on you.
The Stars and Bars is only “controversial” to idiots who have no idea what the Cival War was all about.

Skynyrd rocks. Even the latest rendition that we saw on 8/20/2016. Stood the whole time as did the rest of the audience.
The way I see it; anyone born in America to at least one American parent is a Native American. The tribes may see it different; that's their problem.
I think it's pretty obvious by now they are complicit in his crimes against America and this fundamental effing change they are doing.
Excellent point and very true.
What is freedom again? The freedom to put up a flag?
Not sure I agree with that. Many fallen heroes were multi-national but the Confederates were American and not foreign. Remember it was brother against brother American's who fought in the first civil war just as it will be in the second when it happens.
We should working to preserve American history as it was and not let it be rewritten by the liberal left and those on the right who agree with them.
Equating the Confederacy with Nazi Germany is a PC talking point. The Confederacy neither attempted to annex a foreign country nor engaged genocide against any group of people.
Those who fought for the Confederacy did so out of loyalty to their states. I happen to think that putting loyalty to your state ahead of loyalty to your nation is wrong (especially since I've lived in about a half-dozen states throughout the US over the years), but not dishonorable. Those who fought for the Confederacy were as honorable as those who fought for the union, and they don't deserve to have their memories spat upon.
You can look at it that way if you wish but don't be surprised when you find out a heck of a lot of people disagree with you. I usually see people who are from Illinois on over to the Atlantic ocean with your attitude. I think you are taught this from birth to believe the South was wrong and that the civil war was about civil rights. It wasn't. It was about money and resources the South had decided to withhold from the North unless their attitude changed. It didn't so war it was. Since the North won they got to tell the story of why the civil war happened; they chose the meme 'slavery' but it was so much more than that. You should learn the real history. To this day the South doesn't like the uppity North telling them how to do things. Have you seen the latest numbers of Texan's who want to secede? Last I saw it was one in three if clinton wins.
But do not ignore the role of the Clintons & others, in making him seem acceptable & almost mainstream:
Straight out of the book 1984. Erase history. Then of course it never happened.
America were the people (States) who established their unique ethnicity in the Revolution, and the lands they held. The war was over divergent roles--or views of same--for the organization (Federal Union) they established.
The idea of no forgiveness of one side by the other, is a recipe for the very disunion, you seem to abhor.
To put the thing in perspective, imagine what would happen to most major nations, if their people adopted the idea of permanent rejection, for the losing side in any domestic war. Would the United Kingdom be 4 affiliated States, or a vast collection of Balkanized fragments. Would there be such a thing--could there be such a thing--as a modern Germany, France, Spain?
Your military record hardly justifies your contempt for the brave sons of 11 American States, whose forebears, in many cases, made possible the very America you pretend to honor. (You may be the most decorated American of the present day. I doubt that your service was ever the equivalent of that of Robert E. Lee's father & uncle.)
Get off your high horse. We are in the process of losing everything of spiritual, cultural or historic value. Your exclusion of your natural allies in that fight is indefensible.
Wrong. The Confederate Flag should be flown at cemeteries with Confederate Veteran’s. They are all Americans.
So when the American Colonies seceded from Great Britain a mere 90 years earlier, using your “logic” the Betsy Ross flag was the equivalent of the Nazi flag. Or are you going to try to make an exception for a rebellion that you want to claim versus one that you want to demonize?
