I certainly am not going to go over all flailing about factrivia on this diversionist crap again. You and Boomer have your opinions and I have mine.

Your opinion is incorrect because it has a false basis for it; That Lochte lied.

Lochte did not lie when he reported that he was robbed by members of the Rio Police department. That fact was absolutely correct.

Lochte *DID* lie when he said he had exaggerated, but he obviously did so in an effort to help his teammates who were being held for ransom in corrupt Brazil.

You need to stop asserting that Lochte lied unless you specify that he lied when he walked back his original statement. His initial statements barring a couple of fuzzy and minor details, was exactly correct.

Lucrative endorsements can be can be pulled for any reason. There is no entitlement clause.

He didn't really lie but he didn't tell the full story either.

And what was the "full story" that he didn't tell? It seems like the essential parts of the story were told.

I also think that Lochte’s story was embellished, as he told his mother.

What part was embellished?

No. “Fuzzy” “minor details” aren’t lies - omission or exaggerations aren’t lies, are they. What exactly do you have invested in this prat?

The STANDARD of proof is no longer on my part; there are plenty of instances of relenting and admission ensuing the incident. That you care to continue this absurd mania is entirely confounding (and no I am not going to recite them for you in some weird self flagellation).

Give it a rest. He is done. The damage is done, and the longer you prop up this farce the worse it will be for him.

He’ll be fine. He’s going to be on Dancing with the Stars.

I also think he’s been unjustly treated by the press and Brazilian authorities.

Bottom line is that neither your opinion nor mine makes a squat bit of difference to those who’d consider endorsing him and paying him a lot of money.

That is not the point. Helping to promulgate a lie about what happened to him is morally wrong on it's own merits.

We should speak the truth and not go along with an attempt to assassinate someone's character.

Lochte is the victim in this. He did nothing wrong. He was first robbed of money by the Corrupt Rio police force, and then they made up lies and spread them to the international media to rob him of his character.

Self righteousness in the guise of right and goodness for this man does not become you. You just need to give it up.

I assassinated nothing; I said I don’t accept his schtick. YOUR accusations about what I said are ‘character assassinations,’ BTW.

You aren’t the arbiter of TRUTH as you speak and neither am I. But I know bullsh!t when I hear it. Get down off the cross - somebody else needs the wood.

What does this statement have to do with Brazil?

The man made a misstatement. Many of us are aware that Brazil speaks Portuguese, but a lot of us consider it to be in the same class as Spanish. It sounds similar to an American ear.

Now there are some of us that would interpret a mistake as a "lie" but I am sure the man who mentioned Spanish speaking countries had no intention of lying when he suggested (from the context) that Spanish was being spoken in Brazil.

Of course if we were the Rio Police department, we would call such a mistake "a lie", because it would suit our own interests to do so.

What he left out was it was off duty cops working privately for someone.

A few years ago I read where the police in Mexico City were renting out their uniforms for a little extra cash. If so, one wonders if this is a widespread practice.

For me, it was just another of the 1001 reasons not to go to Mexico.

Any amount of vandalism is inexcusable, if the store wanted that sign taken down, they can do that themselves, they don’t need Ryan Lochte’s help

He voluntarily handed over the money to pay for the sign and the door, plus an additional $100 “tip”.

And finally, when you are in a host country, you act on your best behavior, you wouldn’t like it if a house guest went in to you house and busted a door and ripped down your family photos off the wall.

Lochte, in the end, acted badly, he deserves losing his endorsements and possibly being banned from the next games.

Brazil, has its own problems, they don’t need made up ones to add to it

I don't know him from Adam, but I became immediately suspicious when I saw the video on "Good Morning America" where the Rio police was claiming he "vandalized" a bathroom, but would not show any video of him entering the bathroom even though they clearly have video covering the entrance to the bathroom.

That they would show no proof of him entering it struck me immediately as wrong.

I have no interest in Lochte, but I have a great deal of interest in preventing an injustice, and I have an especially deep hatred for the US Media and how they have no qualms of repeating lies to assassinate the character of people they don't like. (Such as Sarah Palin, or Donald Trump.)

Give it a rest. He is done. The damage is done, and the longer you prop up this farce the worse it will be for him.

I do not fight for the truth because it is convenient or popular. I do it because it is the right thing to do, though the whole world may be against me.

I have long been on the wrong side of the world. This is territory that seems destined to be my permanent home.

So far as I am concerned, the "World" is a bunch of Lying Socialist bastards, and being on the wrong side of them is a pretty good indication that you are on the right side of morality.

I also think he’s been unjustly treated by the press and Brazilian authorities.

On the basis of this incident, It has been demonstrated that both the Press and Brazilian authorities are corrupt liars.

But most especially the Brazilian police.

Crooked third world police couldn’t be trusted to write a parking ticket to the correct person if there was $2 to be made. They have dead bodies and murderous police all over the plave (try Live Leak - search Brazilian Police) and are wasting our time this petty crapola.

Lochte and the State Dept should tell these creeps to F-off.

My ship pulled into San Diego to do some repairs on a division of destroyers. Wow.. a chance to see Mexico, exciting for a 19 year old.
When I mentioned Tijuana a 1st Class Petty officer exploded at a buddy and myself. After a firm lecture and a good many “explitive deleteds”, we spent our liberties exploring beautiful downtown San Diego. No big deal, but several shipmates learned a very hard lesson.

No. You don't get to hand wave this away. The evidence demonstrates that it is the Brazilian police who are the corrupt liars, and you refuse to acknowledge this, most likely because you have doubled down on your initial position.

The evidence indicates that Lochte was robbed at gunpoint by Brazilian police. The evidence also indicates that the Brazilian police lied when they made their accusation that he committed "vandalism."

The "Truth" is self evident for any reasonable person without an agenda. It does not require a saint to point out what is the truth. Any objective person can do it.

I don’t think it is worth all the hoopla, but, the key thing to remember is: When you are not in the USA, our rules do not apply, no matter how stupid, oppressive, or nonsensical the rules of the host country are, they apply.

That is probably a 20 dollar sign, not even worth a slap on the hand in the USA.

In another country, it could be a year in jail. And the Embassy might be able to help you, or they might not. Anyone who has ever spent time in the military knows this: if you do something to break local laws, you are going to be largely on your own.

They told us this in the context of drug use, but there is no doubt it applies across the board. Including damaging property, no matter how innocuous it might seem to us.

Right or wrong, that is how it is, and it is well to keep it in mind when traveling.
