Paragraphs are our friends.
Oh, my eyes.
Thank you.
Your word wrap wasn’t on when you posted it.
Certainly something to be avoided. I think the Founders knew well that ochlocracies generally end badly for everyone. Rule of law (Constitution) is really all that stands between us and the pitchforks of the mob. That's why Obama and the 'Rats are so dangerous. For them, ideology comes ahead of the law (except for maybe Hillary, who seems to crave money more than anything, although she is a purebred ideologue as well).
It’s now very like what the Anti-federalists said it would be.
But it took a devastating civil war, and IMO a consolidated national media to pervert it so. And yet there’s still some of the design that perseveres and allows hope.
What’s weird about sates having equal representation rather than NYC LA and Chicongo running rough shod over the rest of us?
Well, a nation can go venal in a lot of ways. We can’t blame a constitution for the abuse thereof.
In any case, our present America is far from the quite laissez-faire institution it used to be.
I don’t waste tears hankering for what used to be, which doubtless had drawbacks as well as advantages. The worst evils don’t even come from on earth, but from off earth. And ultimate salvation definitely comes from off earth.
People have to have a liking for a certain amount of principle to make a system like this go.
Otherwise we now have a lot of small interest groups squabbling for parochial advantages, and large parties vying for how much they can pander to the squabblers.
I stopped reading when he said each state gets at least two electors.
It’s either a typo, or he is an idiot. Each state gets at least three.
There was a lot of principle elevated then, that is not elevated now.
However it had its own ills too (hello and good bye, slavery, for example) and the upshot of the national reaction to those was to diminish some of the other principles.
I keep insisting that our ultimate woes are not political. They are theological.
Insight. Incite means to move them to action. Like inciting a riot. Insight means, literally, to see inside, look inside.
Could there be a hypothetical state of Emptylandia with a population so tiny that it would have no representation in the House, but would still have two Senators?
The College representation is the total of the two.
“According to a story in Herodotus, the nature of monarchy, aristocracy, and democracy, and the advantages and inconveniences of each, were as well understood at the time of the neighing of the horse of Darius, as they are at this hour.”
John Adams: A DEFENCE OF THE CONSTITUTIONS OF GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
A mixed government- like that of the Founders: an executive of kingly nature, a Senate and Judiciary of oligarchal nature, and a House of democratic nature- was a new idea, advocated by that modern upstart Polybius...
Excellent thoughts. Now what do we do?
Good reads, thanks!
Sigh. His math is just plain wrong. Our system actually increases each peraon’s voting power regardless of the state they are in. His 270 electoral vote super-state is a straw man.
Long week, too beat to chew through the math here. But again, he is just plain wrong.
....”Of course this is assuming all the voting & vote counting is on the up & up & with electronic machines, theres no assurance of that”....
There are countless videos out there now showing how easy it is to manipulate the voting machines......at site....not to mention where the votes go from there and those who have access to the programs.
The only assurance we can know for sure is Hillary can only win by cheating.
“If you want to win the Presidency, you got to win Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania.”
And that’s all Trump has to do if he can hold all the states Romney won. The swing .5% IN FL, 3% in OH and 4.5% in PA. That gets him 273 EV’s.
