Americans Affirm Voter ID Laws

If photo ID laws are the bane to minority voting rights that leftists and assorted federal judges claim, you’d expect the public to agree. Not even close.

Eighty percent of Americans, white and nonwhite across party lines support photo ID laws, according to a Gallup poll taken Aug. 15-16:

Last July, the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals held that Texas’ “strict photo ID law” discriminated against or disproportionately affected black and Latino voters who allegedly face hardships in obtaining the necessary documents, which include any of the following:

The National Conference of State Legislatures website provides detailed information on each state’s voter ID law as of Aug. 19.

While waiting in line to vote in 2014, in one of the most conservative counties in Texas, I observed a diverse group of adults of all ages and various income brackets, including whites, blacks, Latinos, and Asians, some disabled, produce a photo ID and proceed to vote without the slightest hitch.

The necessary documents appear to be items easily obtained by “LEGAL” citizens.

Yeah, but American minorities are too stupid to get a valid voter ID. The Democrats tell us so.

Glad to see so many surveyed agree that the Dem position is inherently racist.

The privilege to vote for those who rule over us should be guarded jealously. Voter fraud should be right up there with treason as a crime.

The vast majority only want fair elections, it doesn’t mater who wins so long as it is won fairly. The minority who doesn’t want voter IDs, are those who............ You know!

For a long time, I have wished that they would just add an on-the-spot ID capability to the voting locations. If the person can get there, then they can get their ID.

Of course, it would be a photo ID with a digital record that is electronically searched to see if that same mug showed up at any other voting locations...

Solves both concerns:
* Poor people finally get their elusive ID
* Voters can believe in one person -> one vote

Shoot - I’d be fine even paying $10-20 to people to cover transportation expenses to get a free voter ID to those that don’t have a Driver’s license or a passport.

”>”... who allegedly [emphasis added] face hardships in obtaining the necessary documents, ..."

Not only have the states never amended the Constitution to expressly prohibit themselves from prohibiting otherwise qualified voters who cannot present a valid voter ID from voting, but also consider the following.

The U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals' action is wrongly a preemptive strike against the states imo, possibly activist judges using the 15th Amendment (15A) as an excuse to justify their action.

In fact, since the states gave Congress the specific power to legislatively strengthen 15A as evidenced by the language of that amendment, it’s up to the 5th Circuit Court to reasonably show that the states have broken federal laws that are reasonably based on that amendment imo.

We might find out after the election is over, not before, their job will have been done.

Georgia Registrars post a notice at their booth (which they claim is official but doesn’t look offficial). It states a new voter has a choice to show the ID at time of voter registration or at the first time they vote. And only the first time.

So a registrant can tell the registrar that he’ll show the ID when he votes. And he votes he can say he showed it when he registered. And there’s no way to prove otherwise.

More significantly voter registration in my S and E Atlanta is much less than in 2014. As I posted 2014 summer and fall, voter registrars were everywhere, going door-to-door with poll lists and clipboards. They had booths both downtown and stirip malls. The GOTV was extremely well manned, organized and optimistic that Michelle Nunn would beat Perdue.

As my IL experience is that GOTV with voter registration wins I predicted that Nunn-Perdue would be very close. I was wrong. Perdue won easily.

My S and E Atlanta neighbors and co-workers who were dependable Democrat votes in 2010 claimed they were not going to vote for Nunn to teach the politicians a lesson. My neighbors were outraged that their insurance premiums went up, deductibles and copay went up... and coverage went down for these working class and lower middle class Democrats. I did not believe them.

But the election results proved me wrong. A few flipped R. Most just did not vote for Nunn...or Carter.

The Dem organization had enthusiasm for Nunn. They seem to lack that enthusiasm and ground game this time. Will that make a difference?

From the article: I guess it just figures that the group with the lowest approval rating is the most expert at voter fraud.

I have yet to hear an argument against voter id laws.

Who doesn’t have ID? Only illegals.

The homeless can get ID for free.
