Netherlands’ Most Popular Party Wants Ban On All Things Islam

Geert Wilders, leader of the nationalist Dutch Freedom Party, wants a ban on pretty much much everything that has to do with Islam.

Wilders released a manifesto Thursday for how the Freedom Party plans to reverse the “Islamization” of the country between 2017-2021. The platform includes bans on mosques, Islamic schools, the Koran, headscarves on women and Muslim immigration.

Wilders has been able to gain popularity at home despite going on trial several times for “inciting hatred” with his remarks against Islam

Recent polls suggest the Freedom Party may become the largest in next year’s election. The party is still unlikely to win its own majority in the parliament, and will have a hard time finding coalition partners to form a government.

Geert Wilder is extremely popular in the Netherlands. His party has risen very fast and he is influential.

I would imagine the law would be written with that taken into account.

It would be dumb not to—there are probably orders of nuns in the Netherlands that wear the full veil. I know there are in France, Italy, and elsewhere.

I suggested to his comment that mohammedan face/headscarves could be banned without banning typical European or Christian scarves or head coverings. Mohammedan headscarves usually involve that chin wrap too, or even the niqab.
