I have lived in the South all my life. All over the South. I have met only one KKK member, and I thought he was pranking with me.

I saw a couple of klansmen in their robes (but no hoods on) passing out fliers on a street corner in Savannah, Georgia back in 1985.

Just down the road from where I grew up in Tallman, NY, less than 30 miles from NYC was a dilapidated old building along one of the old Erie Lackawanna tracks, built in the late 1800's. It was a rest stop for the RR workers and had a tavern that was used for klan meetings. The Rockland Cty historical society has old photographs from the 1920's of them marching down Lafayette Av in Suffern, waving the Stars and Stripes instead of the Stars and Bars. Further upstate Pine Bush is known for 2 things. There's been alleged UFO sightings there, it's called the Roswell of the East and it's one of the few places left where there's any klan activity to speak of.
