On the Tube in London theres a sign saying Mind The Gap to warn riders to be careful when stepping on the train NBC might want to pay attention to the expression when it comes to Olympics ratings.
With a 4.0/14 rating among adults 18-49 and 16.85 million viewers for the Closing Ceremony of the Rio Games, NBC is looking at the worst Summer Olympics results in decades. Not only are fast affiliates down to the second lowest result of the 2016 Olympics for the Comcast-owned nets primetime coverage but they took a whooping 56% fall in the key demo and dropped 44% viewershipwise from the closing of London 2012.
Perhaps even worse is that Rio 2016s last hurrah wasnt up that much from the early numbers of the Closing Ceremony of the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. Last night saw a rise of just 10% in viewers and 21% in among the 18-49s from the end of the 2014 Games on February 23 of that year. In fact, last night was down 49% in the demo in early numbers from the fast affiliates of August 14 which saw Usain Bolt speed to another gold.
All of which left a special 10:30 11 PM edition of The Voice (2.7/10) with little bounce and close to its usual non-Olympics results. CBSs Big Brother (1.8/7) was even with last week as was BrainDead (0.3/1). Celebrity Family Feud (1.1/4), The $100,000 Pyramid (1.0/4) and Match Game (0.9/4) were even, up a tenth for the two latter ABC shows from last week.

Also, during the opening ceremonies, I mean in the 1st 20 minutes or so too, they mentioned “Global Warming” and had a huge thing on the floor reflecting what was being said. I thought, oh maaaaaan, what a horrible Olympic moment.
the hype turns me off...
the constant parade of anything "black" or "muslim"...
biggest thing for me is nothing seems to be live...as in you watch it as its going on...
A man wants to sit down and watch the sport.

Exactly! NBC will never get high ratings for Olympics coverage until they dump that little twerp Bob Costas!
I never saw US mens gymnastics showing up in my cable TV line-up, so I didnt watch any.
***************************************
I changed channels when mens’ gymnastics was on, but did watch the womens’ gymnastics.
The mens’ gymnastics is like mens’ ice skating; both seem to be populated by gays.
Very true.
This woman, Ibtihaj Muhammad, only won one opening bout, and then was quickly defeated in the second round. She was awarded a bronze medal, because the team won a medal - her contribution was almost insignificant. Yet, NBC ran long and glowing pieces on her, where she spewed on and on about Islam, "discrimination", her degree from Duke in "African-American Studies", and all the rest.
Hitler's propaganda thugs at the 1936 Berlin Olympics could have learned a few things from NBC.
That's why the media went ape crazy when a reporter from the Daily Beast used the Grindr (a homosexual app used to have promiscuous and quick sex) to see how many gay athletes took the bait.
Daily Beast Grindr-Baiting Story Sparks Outrage for Sleazy Outing of Gay Olympians
They went nuts because it didn't "fit the narrative." The reporter used no names, listed no nations of the athletes, nothing. But it didn't matter. The story was deleted, the reporter accused of "hate" and worse, and he was sent death threats and threatening e-mails.
The reporter exposed homosexuality for what it is: sexual sin and serial promiscuity - and he was vilified for it.
Some ski contests in the Winter and I have my fill.
I just can’t work up interest in the Olympics. One big money making venture....not all that much pride of country....IMHO!!!
I wouldn’t even consider watching it live......commercials is what they invented fast forward for!!
NBC has a problem with Lying Lochte but no problem with Lying Hillary.
Funny how NBC is all upset with Lying Lochte but OK with Lying Hillary.
Thankfully, I’ve been sparted the ‘anything muslim’.
That would cause my blood to boil.
While Christianity is trashed and labeled as something that should be practiced in private and always attacked on a Church and State basis, other religions are welcomed into the public debate.
Star Trek Voyager used to explain in great detail the “Spirit Guide” of one character. They spent whole episodes on it, explaining the faith in great detail, showing real reverence to it. Many other episodes touch on it, always in a respectful reverent manner. It was almost as if the writers were preachers of the sect.
Then we get to Islam and it’s so well respected that when it’s practitioners do exactly what it’s tenets are, the “religion” (cult) is still reverenced and absolved. It’s a-okay to teach about it in our schools, role play, and basically proselytize from the teacher’s position.
Simply amazing to watch the double standards in this nation.
I used to like him. In his original element, he didn’t bother me. Then they made him more PC and it killed it.
I agree with you.
I hear ya. I know what you mean.
I watched a fair amount of the Olympics. I love rooting for Team USA - whether it’s soccer, 10 meter air pistol or pentathlon (sp?).
If a person can get past NBC’s overwhelming fascination with gymnastics and swimming, there was some good viewing to be had. Yeah, you had to look for it and suffer thru way too many commercials - but all in all, I was OK with it.
By the way, I love watching handball. What a great game. Back and forth action and lots of scoring. That’s a sport I’d love to see the US do well at.
Wonder why Team Handball never really took off.
