Ryan Lochte is saying sorry.
After continually, publicly claiming to have been a victim of an armed robbery during a night out with his fellow U.S. Olympic swimming teammates, the gold medalist has issued a lengthy statement regarding the unfolding scandal.
"I want to apologize for my behavior last weekendfor not being more careful and candid in how I described the events of that early morning and for my role in taking the focus away from the many athletes fulfilling their dreams of participating in the Olympics," he said in a statement issued on social media Friday morning.
As for why he hadn't spoken publicly sooner, "I waited to share these thoughts until it was confirmed that the legal situation was addressed and it was clear that my teammates would be arriving home safely," he penned.
"It's traumatic to be out late with your friends in a foreign countrywith a language barrierand have a stranger point a gun at you and demand money to let you leave, but regardless of the behavior of anyone else that night, I should have been much more responsible in how I handled myself and for that am sorry to my teammates, my fans, my fellow competitors, my sponsors and the hosts of this great event," he continued. "I am very proud to represent my country in Olympic competition and this was a situation that could and should have been avoided. I accept responsibility for my role in this happening and have learned from valuable lessons."
The apology comes on the heels of Brazilian police officials telling reporters that two of the four swimmers involved in the alleged robbery have confessed to the incident being fake.

Yes he couldn’t speak sooner because he was so concerned about his teammates
Ya think?
He’s a closet gaywad looking for attention. Nobody dyes their damned hair blue/grey like that for no queer reason.
More intelligent
More mature
More responsible
Still blaming the evil security guard
No, you should not have “been more responsible” you SHOULD NOT HAVE LIED - especially on national TV while representing your country.
Say goodbye to any lucrative contracts you might have gotten.
And the answer is not to lie again, and say some hogwash about ‘responsibility’ - ADMIT YOU LIED.
Get on TV, apoligize you your cuntrymen for embarrasing them and apologize the the host country for lying. You can say it was a ‘fish tale’ that just kept growing in each re-telling but it was still just a tale and you’re embarrased you did it.
Weasel words are not going to make it better.
I’m sorry, if I’d encountered a security guard or a police officer who demanded I hand over cash to him in person, even if I had caused the damage it was supposedly reparations for, I’d call it a robbery.
OTOH, that may be a cultural thing, and having police assess and collect damages on the spot might be usual, in Brazil.
So what was he covering up with his lies...?
Ryan. No problem it only cost you millions of dollars.
The post-Hillary Era type of apology.
A queer choice of words.
You were dishonest. You shamed us. (Lochte). No one minded you partying. Even messing up a bathroom, if you paid for it, can all be forgiven. But lying to the world and making your hosts suffer? For that you deserve to lose all the millions you have lost in endorsements.
You are right—the wording was so Clintonian—a non-apology apology clearly drafted by a dirtbag attorney (oh but I repeat myself :-) )
Yes, queerly, there is more than one definition for that particular word. :0) [At least for now]
Someone pointed out on the Gator forum, that if you were on the UF campus in 2007, you could have run into: Tim Tebow, Aaron Hernandez and Ryan Lochte.
No, he’ll cash in big time...this is the lowlife, corrupt obama america we’re talking about,...appearances on Ellen, The View, all the morning tv talk shows,..a book deal, and of course, an invitation to the White Hut.
Certainly it was necessary for him to be cautious; and even his “apology” may be something that was demanded by the Brazilians to not charge anyone.
That, plus the $10,000 fine.
Suppose you’d just broken in a bathroom door just before your ‘encounter?’
It is my understanding this wasn’t ‘police’ that one could assume bribable, but rather someone connected with the establishment that suffered the damage.
I CERTAINLY wouldn’t make my stand on some drunk a$$hole elite prat ‘Olympians’ out on the ‘town they think belongs to them.’
1) I dont trust Big Media. They are known liars and known to hate America.
2) I dont trust the Brazilian government in particular, and third world governments in general. They are known to be corrupt, and dishonest, and hate America.
3) I dont trust armed security guards in third-world hellholes. The distinction between them and armed robbers can be difficult to make.
4) I dont trust video with huge gaps in it.
