A seminal moment in the quantum technology field just happened: Google's team of scientists have simulated a hydrogen molecule from its quantum computers, a breakthrough that suggests it could simulate even larger chemical systems, writes one of Google Quantums engineers, Ryan Rabbush. The search engines achievement underscores the technologys potential as Rabbush posits it can revolutionize the design of solar cells, industrial catalysts, batteries, flexible electronics, medicines, materials and more.

Nothing new can excite me now (except for maybe Raquel Welch in 3D)
The guy must be trying to raise money for his company. A month ago I was at a 2 hour overview by one of the top professors in the field. Quantum computing has got a _long_ way to go before it can be used on real world problems.
Sort of like fusion - it’s been 10 years in the future for the last 50 years.
It’s probably a long way to go before it can match the performance of high end supercomputers. But I did read today that they now can get a sustained performance of 1000 qubits, although I don’t know how to relate that to a sequential computer performance.

Uhm...that was a joke right?
There is a difference between doing calculations and doing useful calculations. Name a problem quantum computing has solved.

I never stated any opinions concerning the utility of quantum computing so I wont defend it.
I thought you were making a joke about a camera actually catching “the movement of light” but I guess you were being serious. That is even more amusing, carry on.
They'll just patent oxygen because--"intellectual property". That way they can raid your house for pirated dvds and fill it with nitrogen when they leave--because "intellectual property".
No worries, mate. :)
It’s a very interesting story, imo.

And which presidential candidate do we want protecting our interests as this ramps up? The media maestro, or the one who doesn’t know what “wipe a server” means?
That does happen in a tornado which about what we’re talking about —only faster and more powerful. about like trains vs the horse and buggy.
Is “Ow! My Balls!” to quickly follow?
