For some reason, playing a song in which 50 percent of the lyrics are the exact phrase smack my bitch up for an accused domestic abuser didnt quite sit right with people, leading the Cubs to issue the following formal apology:
"The selection of this track showed a lack of judgment and sensitivity to an important issue. We have terminated our relationship with the employee responsible for making the selection and will be implementing stronger controls to review and approve music before public broadcast during our games."

Still, it is remarkable that a Cubs employee chose to play this song for their own controversial pitcher. A little protest movement within the Cubs organization???
The Cubs are more concerned with the “insensitivity” of the song played in this situation than with the domestic abuser who is on their pitching staff.
How about all the #1 hip hop songs with n*gger in it?
Lyrics? Who knew?
I really do live in a bubble.

Wait. It’s a rap song, right? Are the Cubs not being sensitive to their unique and incredibly rich culture? The Dept of Just Us needs to take a look at these racists at Cubs HQ!
It’s not rap. Prodigy is a British electronica/techno band. Weird music, but not rap.
The spokesman went on to say "The player in question also showed a lack of judgement and sensitivity but hey, we haven't won a world series in, like, ever, so sometimes you have to look the other way."
Not acceptable for your own team... what if the abuser played for the opposing team?
Yep, funny how nobody seems to want to mention that.
Huh?

Watch the video for Prodigy’s Breathe. Jared Leto totally ripped that guy off for “his” Joker. Interesting song.
ok thanks.
well for whatever kind of song it is, I think the now-terminated employee did a good job calling attention to the issue of domestic abuse!
The Cubs fired the employee for playing the song about their own (Cubs) player. Would they have reacted as strongly had the song been played for a “visiting” team player guilty of the same offense?
I'm not familiar with this particular composition, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that it's not a ballad.
I can't believe the Cubs put this player on their roster.
Would it be acceptable to ridicule an abuser if they were on an opposing team.
I don’t go to many ballgames anymore. And one reason is the constant din of hard rock music played at a loud volume.
What’s with this walk up music in baseball?
And what’s with playing hard rock or rap? Whatever happened to the stadium organist playing organ music between innings??
Ain’t nobody got no sense of humor? I laughed when I read the headline.
I take it no one cared that some attendees, especially those who brought children, don’t appreciate hearing obscenities/profanities and violence against women in lyrics during a ball game.
