U.S. womens gymnast Gabby Douglas was criticized for not placing her hand over her heart during the playing of The Star-Spangled Banner Tuesday night, and she has since apologized to anyone she may have offended.
Douglas was ripped apart on social media for standing with her hands by her side as the U.S. national anthem played after she and her teammates received their gold medals. She wrote on Twitter that she never meant any disrespect

Amen to your common sense post. Thank you.
OK, folks, lets not do a CNN-like Trump derangement syndrome-style report here, OK? Phelps had tears in his eyes throughout, hand on his heart, and at one point a friend in the stands did something that made him smile and then laugh. Probably to keep Phelps from crying full out.
She may be a very good gymnast but she has a long way to being the best person she can be. During an interview with Oprah, she slapped down her old training gym and team by claiming they were racist and mean to her. Her old coaches and teammates denied it all saying she was liked by all and had sleep overs and such with the other girls. That was the team that made her good enough for Karolyi to coach her.
She sounds like another black female victim.
do you have a flagpole in your yard???
your statement was asinine at best and STUPID at worst.
i say fuch her non-apology apology.
and i do not care if she is offended. little snotty bitch.
As a veteran I leave my cover on and salute.
Hand over heart is for the pledge
i think she facies herself as a BLM sympathizer ... but unwilling to go all in.
so, you're saying that the guy who drives home stone drunk for 20 years makes drunk driving a real good idea???????
Hand not over heart?
Hell, a few years ago I was visiting friends in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and attended a Veteran’s Day parade, down Main Street, Smalltown USA. Everybody along the route was partying and drinking beer, stretched out on their lounges or sprawled out on their lawn chairs.
The parade started and NOT ONE GODDAM CITIZEN stood up as the National Colors went by. There were at least a half dozen times some group carried the flag by and those bozos never bestirred themselves. I stood and placed hand over heart each time and glared at the rest - and was ignored - (pass another beer Hon).
I was so damned pist I wanted to harangue the crowd but the people who I was staying with said to let it go. I still feel guilty that I didn’t sound off, even if I embarrassed them.
What? You put your hand above your breast and not on it!
No, she did not disrespect he flag. She stood at attention and did not talk, chew gum, spit on the ground.
You all have to relax a little.
I’ve never been to a game with the pledge or a prayer. One catholic college did a prayer in the locker room, but never on the field.
That would make people squirm in New England.
Exactly.
And thank you for your service, sir.
Is she the person of color with the sour expression?
It was awful
That’s a photo of her with the 2012 Olympic team.
Didnt you know, she’s entitled to be sour.
I highly doubt she had not thought of any disrespect to anybody. The 20 year old gymnast just won a gold medal. She is not running for office. Just jumping around on things.
