When I asked an Italian friend about the economic problems of EU (as well as socialism), particularly in her country, she said apologetically, "No one ever anticipated the influx of immigrants."
Never anticipated?
I always thought EU was flawed -- the whole notion that Europe was culturally homogeneous, one big happy-sappy family where there was no difference between a Swede & a Serb. I always predicted boundary issues, as well as squabbles over how to run things.
Even back in the 1990s, couldn't anyone have seen that open borders invites chaos? In my neighborhood the plan to create an exclusive apartment building for female tenants was nixed out of concern it would attract derelict women. Common sense means awareness of consequences.
Open borders & governments that hand out benefits like toys to children naturally attract & create an underclass. Now everyone has to suffer.
The eu never said that europe was culturally homogeneous. That’s why it did not want to define a common basis in Christianity
There are open borders between states in the uss and that works in creating a common market. The flaw is the welfare state and Islam
