The father of slain Queens jogger Karina Vetrano had a bad back — and a worse feeling — when his devoted daughter left on her nightly run.
The vivacious 30-year-old, who typically jogged alongside her dad, ignored his warning to avoid an overgrown trail and ran right into the hands of a merciless killer, cops said Wednesday.
Though cops say it appears she fought desperately, her father, Philip Vetrano, found her lifeless body — strangled and likely raped — facedown amid the towering weeds about 15 feet off a desolate path in a Howard Beach park.
Neighbors say the 10-foot-high growths along the trails allowed predators to lie in wait and partiers to drink and do drugs without fear.
Sad.
There was a sicko who was raping and killing young women in San Diego county along trials a few years ago. As I recall, one strong athlete escaped him, and that was how he got caught.
What might have happened had this young woman been armed? But that is almost impossible in virulently anti-gun NYC. Another victim of the Liberal mindset and the Sullivan Act.
A simple pepper spray canister would save a lot of lives and stop a whole lot of rapes.
And he usually ran with her but wasn’t up to it that day. Sickening that we can no longer be safe in the outdoors.....even when close to our homes.
Works for me.
Sometimes we need a godfather. This is one.
Sad for many reasons.
That said it is good to listen to common sense warnings.
I mean of course we can go anywhere we legally want, but one is wiser to not put themselves is positions that others can do bad things to them. For example I do not go into certain inner city neighborhoods.
New York? Armed protection is only for Oprah and other celebrities. Oh yes, and those with illegal weapons.
The average citizen has no right to legal weapons. Not even those recommended by our vice president for home protection.
The willful and commonplace naiveté of the victim, while lamentable, is sufficient testimony to your point, and points beyond.
They were highly successful but unfortunately the racist poverty pimps, soul brothers with then Detroit Mayor Coleman Young, convinced him to disband the unit in 1974........
My heart aches for this dad.

It’s a good thing as an honest citizen she isn’t allowed to carry a handgun in New York. Somebody might have gotten hurt.
I don’t want to be cruel but, really? What did you THINK was going to happen?
An older friend described to me how the FBI did something like that decades ago as Newark NJ fell (due to the high number of FBI civilian employees being mugged there); supposedly they eventually stopped because they would have arrested so many young black men - it was like baiting them (they disguised law enforcement as white women, and the blacks couldn’t resist trying to steal the purses).
When the infamous “Central Park Jogger” rape case arose decades ago, it quickly came out that cops who knew her had been telling her not to jog in the park alone at night; she showed them...
