According to a new report, Senior U.S. Department of Justice officials not only knew about the $400 million payout from the U.S. government to Iran — they warned against it.
DOJ officials reportedly voiced their opposition to funneling millions of dollars to Iran via an unmarked cargo plane while the Iranian government was releasing four American hostages, according to The Wall Street Journal Wednesday.
“People knew what it was going to look like, and there was concern the Iranians probably did consider it a ransom payment,” a source in the Justice Department told WSJ.
The State Department overruled their objections and shipped out wooden pallets of euros, Swiss francs, and other currencies, in compliance with a U.S. law restricting transactions in dollars to Iran.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest claims the payment was not a ransom nor a covert payment, but a resolution to “a 35-year-old financial claim with the Iranians in a way that saved Americans potentially billions of dollars.”

Obama foundation invites foundation donors to the White House

WASHINGTON — A new study details how President Barack Obama has been inviting his Obama Foundation donors to events at the White House, a venue that obviously won’t be available to him to entertain mega contributors in a few months. The Obama Foundation, created on Jan. 31, 2014, has to date only 39 contributors, with the money coming either from individuals or foundations controlled by Obama supporters.
The nonprofit, nonpartisan oversight Maplight Foundation found that 15 of the 39 have been to the White House for small meetings or events, fewer than 30 attendees, including everyone connected to a contribution of more than $100,000.
Most of the donors have been longtime political supporters and friends — or at least acquaintances of Obama — and have been in and out of the White House for years.
However, Maplight found that at an intimate White House dinner in January 2015 with actress Julia Roberts, the guests included two couples who had recently made jumbo contributions to the Chicago-based foundation.
And as 2015 progressed, one of the couples at the dinner kicked in even more, the foundation IRS report released last Friday reveals.
Among those at the January 2015 dinner were Mark Gallogly, the managing partner of Centerbridge Partners, an investment firm, and his wife, Lise Strickler. At that point, the New York couple had donated $340,000 to the foundation.
By the end of 2015, they put in an additional $330,000 for a total of $670,000. I checked to see what else was new: Gallogly and Strickler were invited to the State Dinner the Obamas hosted in March for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
In 2014, Tom Campion, owner of the Zumiez clothing chain and his wife, Sonya, gave the foundation $500,000. The Seattle couple found themselves at the Julia Roberts dinner along with folks who have also been longtime Obama backers. Another guest that evening was one of Obama’s favorite authors, Marilynne Summers Robinson.
The White House has said — and underscored this again on Wednesday at the daily briefing when asked about the Maplight report — that the Obamas are not fundraising for the foundation while in office. Well, no one is selling tickets to anything, that’s accurate. That’s not how fundraising at the mega level is done.
Obama will have to raise hundreds of millions of dollars to construct and endow his Obama Presidential Center on Chicago’s South Side. Fundraising at the elite donor level is an art, a nuanced dance, especially for an institution that will exist in perpetuity.
Small dinners are not put on Obama’s daily guidance and schedule. On April 2, 2016, the White House volunteered that Obama and first lady Michelle hosted their first White House event for supporters of the Obama Foundation. That dinner was not a fundraiser, the White House said.
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said: “What we have said about donors to the campaign also applies to donors at the foundation, and it’s simply this: Donating in support of the President’s foundation does not guarantee you a meeting with the President of the United States. It also doesn’t prevent you from getting a meeting with the President of the United States, and that’s the approach that we’ve taken, again, with regard to supporters of the President’s campaign, and it’s the approach that we’ve taken with regard to supporters of the President’s foundation.”

Trump is very clever, but anyone with business savvy knows that management is often ‘situational’. What works in one setting or phase of a business is not necessarily going to work in another.
What worked so brilliantly for Trump in the primaries is not working as well for him now. I realize the media is on a jihad against him and is exaggerating his mistakes, but Trump himself has to shift gears and focus his message better. Just my humble opinion.
If he sticks to the economy, immigration, national defense, and law and order he will likely be the next president. Focus on Hillary like a laser beam. She will melt under the intensity of the light.
Then with what your saying, you should apply to run his campaign, I’m sure Manafort won’t mind...
I don’t think I’m suggesting anything that he hasn’t already heard from others, including his own advisors. Bill O’Reilly has made similar suggestions to Trump as well as other politicians who have lots of experience with elections. My views come primarily from a business world perspective.
People who are ‘higher ups’ tend to be resistant to suggestions from those beneath them. Its a phenomena you see all the time in the business world. Their attitude is “I’m up here and you’re down there, so don’t tell me how to run my business.” They also have a defensive tendency towards taking things personally as if someone is trying to take something from them or diminish them in some way.
Trump probably exhibits a little bit of that attitude. Its understandable since he is such a great success. But he’s operating in a totally different environment now. The best executives I ever worked around had pretty thick skins and welcomed constructive criticism. They were constantly adapting to new situations. That’s what made them so effective. You either adapt or you fail.

And anybody who has taken a scary amusement park ride and rode on an airplane knows, you have to trust the mechanics and the pilots because they've been expertly trained to react to all sorts of urgent situations.
Same with Trump. For 30 odd years he's run dozens of organizations -- hotels, luxury apartments, a winery, a TV show, publisher/author.
And somehow he never needed the advice of the mainstream media or know-it-all RINO consultants like Karl Rove.
But guess what, he's come out on top and has defied his critiques, often doing the opposite of what pundits and Gingrich's and Ryan's suggest.
Yeah, buckle me up for that ride to a Better America, Mr. Trump. I know we're gonna experience some turbulence, but I trust your judgement and leadership. Wake me up just before we arrive because I want to see the ceremonies on Inauguration Day.
And best of all, Mr. Trump, I want to see the face of that traitor pResident at the exact moment when you take the reigns of power and you start utterly destroying his legacy of executive actions and anti-American decisions.
That's gonna be a sweet sight to see.
