The Republican nominee, Donald Trump, has declined to endorse the re-election campaign of the House speaker, Paul Ryan, the highest-ranking member of his party in Washington, as divisions intensified in the GOP.
I like Paul, but these are horrible times for our country, Trump said in an interview with the Washington Post, a publication that is still banned from Trumps campaign events.
We need very, very strong leadership. And Im just not quite there yet. Im not quite there yet.
The Republican nominee also refused to back Senator John McCain, the partys 2008 nominee, in his bid for re-election in addition to Ryan, the most powerful elected Republican in the country.
Both Ryan and McCain are longtime critics of many of Trumps remarks, but both have said they would support the Republican nominee in the general election. Ryan, in particular, needed coaxing to eventually support Trump, citing his concerns about the candidates proposed ban on Muslims entering the US. Eventually Ryan not only endorsed Trump but presided over his nomination at the Republican national convention in Cleveland.
Ryans campaign responded through a spokesman, Zack Roday, who said: Neither Speaker Ryan nor anyone on his team has ever asked for Donald Trumps endorsement. And we are confident in a victory next week regardless.

“... And Im just not quite there yet. Im not quite there yet. hmm now where did I hear that line before?
What goes around, comes around.
Mr. Trump CHOSE the American People.
The scumbag Ryan chose Obama, al Qaeda, ISIS,
IRS attacks, BAIN, Soros, ... and wrongly.
History in a way repeats. Caesar first purged the disloyal petty tyrants in his midst before he crossed the Rubicon to take definitive action against the Roman establishment that had become corrupt.
He wasn’t there, then he got there.
The Post is banded? I thought only one reporter was banded?
I don’t recall Trump saying he “refuses” to endorse. Ryan says he hasn’t asked Trump to endorse him.
Nehlen will win for sure!!!!!

TRUMP - not afraid to stand alone.
“The life of the nation is secure only while the nation is honest, truthful and virtuous.” - Frederick Douglas, (19th Century Civil Rights Activist)
“Nehlen will win for sure!!!!!”
Interesting footnote to history if he does. Getting a Speaker of the House primaried out would be a first. Usually the Speaker of the House facing a serious challenge steps down first, even resigns, before that happens.
Paul Nehlen sure came out of nowhere. But that does not mean he is a nobody.
Excellent call. Trumps non endorsement may even help defeat Ryan.
Go Kelli Ward!!!
Goodnight Paul Ryan, it’s time to go home.
Go Nehlen!
“MR. NEHLEN: I sent you 100.00 last night. Don’t disappoint me - I want you to put your foot so far up Ryan’s arse they’ll have to amputate it. Be aggressive - tell the truth about Ryan; that he supports Obama and Clinton, pure and simple. And, come at him from so many angles he can’t handle it all. He won’t build a wall on our southern border, but he doesn’t mind a wall around his house and the Whitehouse? Oh, us poor, lowly citizens are not worthy of his honor and mere presence? Then, he’s gonna fund Obamacare? On top of that, he’s gonna criticize Donald Trump for telling it like it is? KICK HIS ARSE!”
“Ryan is the golden boy for globalist who want to turn America into a third world country with low wage slaves and destroy the middle class... There is nothing Ryan supports that is good for workers or our country... When you look at his immigration policies you might as well say goodbye to America..... Nehlen fighter for AMERICA”
Usually, Presidential candidates don’t endorse candidates in primaries. Trump is endorsing no one. Why is that a story?
