COLORADO SPRINGS — Speaker Paul Ryan told a donor audience convened by the billionaire Koch brothers that they're in a fight to "retake the soul" of the Republican Party.
"We have to do a better job of taking the moral high ground ... showing [conservative] ideas in practice," Ryan said on Monday.
"And it will help us retake the soul of our own party, which we have our own challenges with these days."
Ryan addressed a room of some 400 donors who have been gathered here since Saturday in a luxury resort at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains for the summer retreat of the Koch network, founded by billionaire brothers Charles and David.

I think Ryan’s district went for Trump. I wonder if a little push from Trump would help Nehlen(sp?)?
My spirits will be greatly lifted if both Ryan and McShame lose their primaries. That will give me proof positive that the TRUMP train cannot be stopped.
What he really means is that he’s in a fight to utterly divorce the republican party from the will of its constituents - in order to guarantee Washington’s professional pols plenty of access to bank accounts, office space, tenure, perks, and privileges, all on the public teat.
Ryan only talked and talked, he’s worse than Bonehead when it comes to accommodating Obama and Dems.
Hopefully voters see through him, even if he could convince these donors.

Ryan thinks that conservatism begins and ends with cheap labor. That is all that the GOPe stands for. Everything else is negotiable to them.
This is a very strange party, to distance its money and leadership from its own Presidential nominee. Is it too late for Trump to run as an independent?
