TURKISH citizens and police have ‘surrounded’ the Incirlik air base it operates with the United States — and where a large stockpile of NATO nuclear weapons is held — ahead of a visit by a senior US official tomorrow.

Thanks for the link:

**Security analysts estimate that within a matter of hours a terrorist with the right training could open up a nuclear weapon to disperse a radioactive cloud effectively converting a warhead into a dirty bomb and within a matter of minutes a prospective terrorist could breach the security perimeter while a well-organized group of militants would likely be successful in an attempt to besiege the facility if Turkish security forces decided against intervening.**

As I predicted even while the aborted coup was in process, Erdogan is exploiting the incident to increase his personal power. The question is how far will he go and what are his motivations. As of now the degree of repression indicates that he intends to go full dictator.

His motivations are not clear. He has recently shown an alarming tendency to push historically secular Turkey toward radical Islam but it is not clear whether he himself is a radical Islamist. The manner in which Obama handles this affair at the airport has the potential to shape this election. The manner in which Erdogan handles the matter will demonstrate much about his allegiances to Islam.

I repeat my reaction during the coup, the good news in this affair, if there is any, is that Turkey might well be denied membership in the European Union and, conceivably, Angela Merkel's misguided visa policy might be interdicted. It might even have implications for the unrestrained flow of refugees into the European Union. Turkey's position in NATO will surely be called into question and the entire structure of NATO will be reviewed as a result especially coming as it does with Trump's remarks concerning the funding levels of certain countries.

Obama has a certain amount of leeway to operate because Turkey is not directly allied with Russia, but rather is nearly a belligerent.

It goes without saying that under no circumstances can the United States permit the nuclearized weapons to fall into Turkish hands. It is also a stink bomb for Hillary if there is a standoff at the airport with Americans semi-hostages within.

“His motivations are not clear”

His motivation is Chinese money. The re-establishment of the Silk Road promises cash inflow to Turkey (and him) for being it’s western bulwark and opening to the Mediterranean Sea.
Turkey depends upon payments from foreign countries- and the West can no longer pay enough.
China can.
There is a new player in “The Great game”.

Well, I hope that the troops all have a loaded magazine or two stashed away like we did back in the old days when the Politicians and Perfumed Princes sent us into potential harm’s way, without ammo.

Erdogan is establishing Turkey as an independent state outside the power of US globalism. He views the west as weak and not likely to be a serious threat for too much longer due to our declining populations and no will to resist Muslim invaders. With Turkey fully independent of US control he can force the EU to do his bidding by threatening to send more Muslims over the boarders or just unleash them by the millions to further weaken the west. Turkey becomes one of the big fish of Europe as the US declines in power as long as we continue our current progressive direction.

However, to be fully independent he needs nukes to make invasion impossible. Now the Russians might give him some as long as they stay under Russian control but Turkey would be in a much stronger position if they can steal ours. So he's playing a game with Obama to see if he can grab the nukes without getting nuked in return. Obama is weak enough to let it happen. Neither Trump nor Hillary would put up with it.

Do you have any evidence for the interesting claim that Erdogan is motivated to turn his face away from his NATO allies and his opportunity to gain entrée into the European Union for Chinese money? Is there any evidence that his motivation is Chinese money rather than Islam? Do you have any evidence that, conceding that he is motivated by Chinese money as the Western terminal of the so-called "silk Road," that he could not get the Chinese money and still, at least for a while, maintain his relationship with Europe? Do you have evidence that the Chinese actually have the money you claim they have in view of their current economic situation?

I agree with your assessment that the West is revealing itself to be increasingly weak but I disagree with your assertion that declining population is the cause, rather it is the symptom. In any event, a cure for impotence (no pun intended) is not to indiscriminately increase the population either organically or through immigration but to enter into the digital revolution and produce more through technology by fewer but better educated hands.

Your idea that Erdogan is aiming to acquire nukes is plausible only if he engineered the abortive coup, a proposition for which as yet we have no evidence. If one merely objectively looks of the landscape, he is protected today by American nukes and need not make an enemy of the most powerful country in the world to get that protection.

The other possibility is the US got wind of Erdogan’s planned purge of all western institutions of the country and Obama reacted with a very sloppy put together coup. There’s been a ton of reports that Russia warned Erdogan which is why he was able to avoid being captured or killed at the start of the coup. Thus Erdogan has good reason to fear US involvement of anything in his nation.

Erdogan has been kissing up to the Russians since the day of the coup and I’d expect a formal alliance before the next president takes office.

With the Muslim Brohood, Brennan, running the CIA, Kerry has probably been in the loop from weeks before the faux coup. The CIA nor the FBI serve the American people any longer. We The People have been usurped and can’t even see it!

Obama is okay with this. It disses America and our military. That’s why the media is ignoring it.

This is also what I believe..we have 2000 servicemen there and he just doesn't care.

A Russian reswcue of our personnel on that base would be interesting ... IF America had a competent leader at the helm, the nukes would have been gone weeks ago. But Val probably plans to leave those for the Turks and their Islamic allies.

Kerry. He'll say, he didn't see it coming. Russia's fault.

Wait - what? We've moved on from blaming Bush? When did this happen? Why wasn't I informed!?!?!?
