I agree with your assessment that the West is revealing itself to be increasingly weak but I disagree with your assertion that declining population is the cause, rather it is the symptom. In any event, a cure for impotence (no pun intended) is not to indiscriminately increase the population either organically or through immigration but to enter into the digital revolution and produce more through technology by fewer but better educated hands.
Your idea that Erdogan is aiming to acquire nukes is plausible only if he engineered the abortive coup, a proposition for which as yet we have no evidence. If one merely objectively looks of the landscape, he is protected today by American nukes and need not make an enemy of the most powerful country in the world to get that protection.

The other possibility is the US got wind of Erdogan’s planned purge of all western institutions of the country and Obama reacted with a very sloppy put together coup. There’s been a ton of reports that Russia warned Erdogan which is why he was able to avoid being captured or killed at the start of the coup. Thus Erdogan has good reason to fear US involvement of anything in his nation.
Erdogan has been kissing up to the Russians since the day of the coup and I’d expect a formal alliance before the next president takes office.
