If the government really wanted to tackle noise, they'd fix the HUGE mess FAA created with it's "NextGen" flight route changes in major metroplexes all over the US. Millions of citizens are furious about aircraft highways being built right over there heads where none existed before. All to benefit the airlines with possibly faster routes and to reduce carbon output.

It's totally ridiculous to tackle noise where this is no problem (offshore) and ignore the huge noise problem they created in cities, towns, and suburbs all over the US.

And here you thought it was just about ship sonar.

The left destroys everything it touches.

There's a construction site about a half-mile from my house.

All day long, I can hear the stupid beep-beep-beep from those crazy back-up beepers that Carter made them put on construction equipment.

Of course, they have to be loud in order to be heard above the din produced by three hundred horsepower Diesel engines.

So I've always wondered, what's the decibel rating of those crazy beepers, and is it above the safe sound-pressure level allowed for operation in close proximity to human beings. I mean, you can easily hear them for half a mile.

If the liberal jerks can do it, they’ll have the unwashed masses living in ghettos while they live it up in mansions. But there will be “social justice”, and they will have thier “utopia”.

I envision a Ocean Meter Maid on a buoy, going ‘shhhhhhhhhh’ to passing ships.

man-made racket from oil drilling, shipping and construction linked to signs of stress in marine life that include beached whales and baby crabs

I used to live at the beach for many years. I was always worried that the sound of waves crashing on the beach kept the baby crabs awake at night. I hoped that they could get enough sleep and wouldn't be too stressed the next day.

Less noise in the ocean will make our submarines a lot easier to find. I wonder whose foundation will be paid for this.

We were doing some work setting off small explosives in a river. There were a few salmon still left, and the Indian fisheries guy was there watching. We set off a charge when we thought no fish were nearby. Well, I saw a tail flicker about 10 feet from the blast. Walked over, and there that salmon still was - just resting in the small pool - unphased from the blast.

Did another job and they wouldn’t allow a small blast (about 4 shotgun shells) within 100 feet of the river! The trucks rattling over the bridge made more noise.

“It’s a global warming problem. It causes hurricanes, which churn up the oceans, which makes noise, which confuses the see critters.

Also, a lot of those ships are carrying oil and LPG. If we grounded them all, it would be quieter, there would be fewer things for the critter to run into, and there would be less global warming.”

Wasn’t this in the Dem platform this year? If not, why not?

Loss of use of active Sonar by navy ships means less training in its use. No other naval power has that restriction.

Loss of noise aimed at oil rigs and sup[port ships means heavy investments in quite prop tech (for starters), which in turn make US oil more expensive and less competitive on the world market.

Carried Further
Once enacted the noise restrictions will be deliberately spread to other marine transportation - including personal Tupperware out and inboards. Forget water skiing.

Carried Still Further
Due to heavy restrictions to protect marine life for the future and for the children, the US mandates only sail power on all private and government ships. Old Ironsides will be brought out as a template for advanced US Navy warships. The political and other well connected elite will gather to watch the glorious sight of the Navy under full sail as it sets off on its months long voyage to meet the challenge of the fully nuclear powered Russian navy.

Is that Jim Cantore in front?

If they believe there is a problem with human induced ocean noise affecting sea creatures ... then can you imagine what these people think about human induced noise on land and the affect on land creatures? They might believe in a final solution to rid the world of human noise. Maybe they should lead the way.

Oil drilling and exploration is listed first. For a reason.

Their goal is to shut down offshore drilling.

My first thought was a sarcastic one: that theses Luddites are just trying to take the first steps in taking returning us all to the days of nothing but schooners and sails (both “green” and quiet!). Second thought was wondering if I was joking?
