Venezuela's new decree: Forced farm work for citizens

A new decree by Venezuela's government could make its citizens work on farms to tackle the country's severe food shortages.

That "effectively amounts to forced labor," according to Amnesty International, which derided the decree as "unlawful."

In a vaguely-worded decree, Venezuelan officials indicated that public and private sector employees could be forced to work in the country's fields for at least 60-day periods, which may be extended "if circumstances merit."

That’s scary. I’ve often wondered how deep is the influence of the cartels in the US govt.

I had a personal encounter with one of the first American VBs in 1970. Was driving from LA to Seattle with a friend who brought a friend of a friend to share expenses. The VB, from Berkley of course, ranted on and on about the glories of Castro. By the time we hit N. Cal I was ready to stuff this wispy Ho Chi Minh bearded little f***g runt into a duffel bag and leave him deep in the woods. Did get an insight into that mindset though, so it was an eye opener.

Sendero Luminoso was the group that American gal ran with and got caught. She pleaded that she was merely an unknowing girl friend of one of the guys masterminding a huge bombing, can’t recall the details just now. Her parents set up a huge campaign to get her released.... fellow travels, always the victims.

“...an Executive Order for the forced removal and forced labor of citizens in the USA in case of “invasion”.”

I can see that. In case of invasion, everybody’s drafted and get the Hell away from the combat zones.

That is why the Catholic Church has officially opposed socialism; it robs workers of their wages.

“Antonio Pestana, chief of Venezuela’s farming association, told reporters last month that only 25 percent of agricultural land is actually being farmed.”

Uh, yeah. No amount of slave labor can make up for the lack of seed, fertilizer, insecticide, herbicide, and operational agricultural machinery.

[BTW, I heard that Sean Penn has volunteered to help pick turnips for a few weeks when he visits Venezuela the next time.]
