When local artist Natasha Marin spoke with Seattle Weekly last week about Reparations.me, her then-7-day-old website and Facebook page, she was clearly fraying around the edgesunderfed, overworked, and ragged as hell.
Ive had about 12 hours of sleep since Friday, she said over the phone with a hoarse laugh, as a second phone buzzed and buzzed in the background. She responded to one last frantic message and attempted to close the 99 windows I have open in order to pull together her thoughts. I maybe have eaten, like, one real meal. Im at that point of exhaustion now, if I see two bunnies kissing each other, Ill just start crying. Im just that tired.
Reparations.me has clearly struck a nerve, one that is pulsing hard right now, online and on the streets: White people should act, and many desperately want to act, in the fight against systemic racism.
The basic concept of Marins site is this: White people have a responsibility to do something to help dismantle white supremacy and white privilege, and people of color are experiencing trauma and stress related to white supremacy and white privilege. So Marin created a simple platform through which white people can offer, and people of color can request, goods or serviceseverything from groceries to funds for emergency surgery to chakra cleanses. In barely a week and a half, hundreds of people have offered, requested, or fulfilled all that and far more; thousands of dollars have been donated, including to the Troll Fund, which Marin created so that for every racist message the site receives, one dollar will go directly to someone requesting financial assistance. (Donors have been dubbed Troll-Slayers, and, as the site boasts, Hate can buy groceries now.)

Yes, she wants more.
I read the excerpt. If I click the link, will I ever get to the part about how to fight racism directly? I’m armed, and prepared to fight if necessary. Does the article offer any further advice I should be aware of?
Natasha Marin. A racist who is unaware she is a racist.
Just another case for incarcerating the mentally ill so they can get effective treatment.
Slavery was legal back then. By the standards of today’s liberals, your ancestors should have been forced to participate in the slave trade, and bake a cake to celebrate it.
OK. Is that racisss enough? That means she owes the Gibsmdats a dollar. And since I'm self-identifying as a black person this morning, I want my dollar!
So, she credits another dollar to the troll fund. She probably does this every time some guilt-ridden white liberal pledges a four figure donation. One dollar to the fund, $999 for "administrative expenses".
Reading these untruths and the micro-aggressive bullying about me on her website only shows that black-on-white racism is thriving and growing exponentially.
At least she is not panhandling on the streets............
“Will obamas white side pay his black side?”
I can guarantee you...before Obama’s left hand can give his right hand the cash...the government will step in and take half.
Who knew Joe Camel had a sister.
I’m in for 35 cents
Not only that but in some areas of the south the largest slave owners were black.
I have good news for those who support the idea of reparations : They’ve already been paid. They’ve been paid in the form of Affirmative Action. They’ve been paid in the form of government contract set-asides for minority owned businesses, minority scholarship programs, and grants to organizations like the Urban League and historically black colleges. Reparations have been paid, and they’ve been paid many times over.
I figure my working one day a week for over 35 years to pay taxes for the gibsmedats so they don’t have to work, pay rent or buy groceries should more than enough.
You people should be ashamed of yourselves for being hard on her. Being a race-hustler is hard work.
The poor thing.
