French president announces plan to send artillery, but no ground troops, to combat ISIL in Iraq in August. ___
French President Francois Hollande has said that France will send heavy artillery to Iraq to support the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
An aide to the president told the AFP news agency that France would also send military advisors to train Iraqi forces in using the artillery.
Elsewhere, protests erupted in Libya's capital, Tripoli, on Thursday following confirmation by Hollande that French special forces are operating in the country and that three French officers had been killed in a helicopter crash in eastern Libya while an intelligence-gathering mission.
Al-Sadeq al-Ghariyani, an ultraconservative Libyan cleric, denounced France's involvement as "foreign invasion" and protesters called for attack on French business interests in the country.
Libya's UN-backed government in Tripoli also condemned France's military action in the country.
After the 2011 ousting of Muammar Gaddafi by NATO-backed rebels, Libya slid into chaos and years later, it split into two governments and parliaments - each backed by a loose array of militias and tribes.

So they’re sending the artillery pieces but no crews?
Insanity.
I hear the South Africans have some great, great artillery
They are sending someone with the operating instruction booklets.
No word on if they will be translated into Arabic.
Dunno about that.
But artillery was the only permanent branch which Hans Kruger created for the Boer armed forces. He made sure it was equipped as best as their meager finances allowed.
so Obama and Hollande think an Iraq Win will help in their next elections
I remember seeing specs on new SA artillery back a few years ago. They were impressive, mobile and bush worthy.
You mean there's no youtube videos on how to operate heavy artillery?
To bad they don’t have their old Pluton missiles with the 20kt neutron warheads. Perfect for Raqqah and other ISIS held enclaves.
I gotta ask, who is the crew if it ain’t the French?
5.56mm
>So theyre sending the artillery pieces but no crews?
Could it be any more clear that the end goal is to have ISIS supply the crews?
How much more Western military gear needs to show up in ISIS hands before it’s obvious to everyone that Western governments are supplying ISIS on purpose?
Operating the weapon probably isn’t that hard.
Hitting anything with your shells, however, calls for some genuine know-how.
The term ISIL denies the existence of Israel. Using it indicates that you side with the terrorists.
Levitating Artillerymen.
I get it!
And the cycle continues. France will hit a few positions, and that will create so called “refugees” who then will enter France to conclude the war on their terms.
“Artillery adds dignity to what would otherwise be a vulgar brawl” Fredrick II, King of Prussia.
“God fights on the side with the best artillery” Napoleon, Emperor of France.
