AUSTIN, Texas A federal appeals court ruled Wednesday that Texas' strict voter ID law violates the Voting Rights Act and ordered changes before the November election.

The ruling from the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals instructs a lower court to make changes that fix the "discriminatory effect" of the 2011 law, but to do so in a way that disrupts this year's election season as little as possible.
President Barack Obama's administration took the unusual step of deploying the weight of the U.S. Justice Department into the case when it challenged the law, which requires Texas residents to show one of seven forms of approved identification. The state and other supporters say the Texas law prevents fraud. Opponents say it discriminates by requiring forms of ID that are more difficult to obtain for low-income, African-American and Latino voters.

No. It will go 4-4 and the lower court decision will be set in concrete.
Better to wait for a 9th justice and have a chance at winning.
This is absurd, considering that Texas provides FREE voter ID cards for anyone who somehow manages to get through life without any other acceptable photo ID.
Abbott tells feds to come to Texas and enforce it
“Opponents say it discriminates by requiring forms of ID that are more difficult to obtain for low-income, African-American and Latino voters.”
Not to mention illegal aliens and those registered in multiple states.
Good grief. We allow SEVEN forms of ID. What more do they want? Oh, wait, it’s not about ID but about the vote early, vote often crowd.
Yeah, it’s so difficult to walk over to the DPS office and get a picture ID. No license required. We got one for our foreign exchange student. Took all of maybe 10 minutes. Done and done.
I’m at the point of removing all forms of ID in order to vote. Then let the conservatives vote hundreds of time each.
Maybe they can allow them to show one of their seven Obamaphones.
You and me both, ma'am.
Actually, there are times when our wonderful English language lacks sufficient words to adequately describe the utter disgust, ya know ? !
It is an effort to make the work of organizations such as True The Vote and other voter fraud prevention organizations jobs hard to do.
Yes, I remember. Also, some Maine close-knit small towns saw bus loads of foreigners coming in to vote in 2012.
“We are extremely pleased with this outcome. This law will no longer prevent eligible voters from casting a ballot this November,” attorney Gerry Herbert, a member of the legal team that challenged the law, said following Wednesday’s ruling.”
How would you know if a person is eligible if you don’t know who the person is?
When you register to vote here (Round Rock Texas)or at least when I did in 2014 they give you a voter card that you are supposed to bring to the polls.
SC will divide, 4 to 4. Lower court ruling will stand,
Just as I said about the recent Wisconsin ruling, Texas should completely ignore that treasonous federal court/judge.
It should be reversed when it gets to the Supreme Court, or at least it would have been if we weren’t stuck with a deadlocked court. As it is, Texas will probably have to appeal after the election once a Trump appointee gets seated in order to get this reversed.
They seem to have no problem acquiring the ID when it is needed to apply for federal benefits, or buy malt liquor or menthol cigarettes.
These judges are BS and rotten America hating radicals. It is amazing at how easy these illegals all have ID’s to get FED bennies, all have driver’s licenses, yet come election they vote in four to five different states. There is nothing tough about getting a drivers license or getting the one that is ID only. What BS these judges push.
They’re going to steal the election. Bastards.
“Texas should outright defy and disregard this illegal fiat.”
Agreed. There’s no other recourse now.
If allowed to be implemented, Obama and the DNC will drive millions of illegals to the polls this November. The whole election could hinge on this one decision.
