Paisanos Italian restaurant was accused of making a joke in poor taste against the Black Lives Matter protest when it shared the Black Olives Matter Try Our Tapenade slogan out the front of its Alburquerque, New Mexico, premises. People have taken to social media to slam the slogan, with Claudia Sanchez writing: As a woman of color I find your posting offensive and in very bad taste.
You simply wish to rub salt in an ugly festering wound which evil minded people refuse to allow to heal. The civilized world no longer has any tolerance for your hateful public display of what passes to you as humor.
Others criticised the restaurant for apparently deleting negative comments.
But others praised the pun, with Russell Berryman writing: Always love a good play on words. keep up the good work.
The restaurants owner Rick Camuglia told CBS affiliate KRQE: We didnt think anybody would be offended by that. It was not our intent to offend anybody.
The sign has since been taken down by the restaurant and photos of the billboard have been taken down
Call the wahmulance
I ordered a pizza last week and the waiter asked “Green or black olives”? I responded with, “Black olives matter” and my son freaked out.
LOL. America needs to lighten up. The killings will continue if we don’t learn to laugh again.
I think it’s very clever!
I LOVE black olives, and pizza would not be complete without them!
All this sensitivity! I think that was a brilliant play on words.
hahahaha. Nice! Pitted?
Wait... was she talking to the restaurateur or to BLM?
Because based on what she said it's hard to tell.
-—You simply wish to rub salt in an ugly festering wound-—
works like a charm to smoke out the trouble makers
Aww... jeez... Not this shit again!
You can never ask a whack left wing nut to lighten up...they have a major melt down!
I doubt seriously that any of the complainants ever even Ate There.
These Social Media Attacks are usually just a handful of self absorbed, loudmouth, racist, bigots whining abut other peoples OPINIONS!
Her: “..offensive and in very bad taste”
Me: “Actually, our tapenade tastes GREAT! Come try it!”
This constant phony outrage is tiresome.
It’s too bad they pulled it and apologized (sort of - “We’re sorry if anyone was offended.” isn’t the same as “I’m sorry for doing something stupid and offensive.”). Don’t get me wrong, I think there was nothing wrong with it. I live in the area, but don’t go out to eat much, and haven’t eaten there. Maybe I should.
You simply wish to rub salt in an ugly festering wound which evil minded people refuse to allow to heal. The civilized world no longer has any tolerance for your hateful public display...”
Claudia needs to find a safe space.
true but not the way she meant it-- the evil minded people pouring salt in wounds are the media and Obama. Not a restaraunt.
I do too. Love those black olives on my pizza!
I remember seeing a black comedian on TV several years ago, don’t remember who. He was talking about his black militant dad, who could find racism anywhere. In the grocery store, dad would say, see that - The black olives are in a can. The green olives are in a jar! Why the Man gotta keep the black olives down?
