Paisanos Italian restaurant was accused of making a joke in poor taste against the Black Lives Matter protest when it shared the Black Olives Matter Try Our Tapenade slogan out the front of its Alburquerque, New Mexico, premises. People have taken to social media to slam the slogan, with Claudia Sanchez writing: As a woman of color I find your posting offensive and in very bad taste.
You simply wish to rub salt in an ugly festering wound which evil minded people refuse to allow to heal. The civilized world no longer has any tolerance for your hateful public display of what passes to you as humor.
Others criticised the restaurant for apparently deleting negative comments.
But others praised the pun, with Russell Berryman writing: Always love a good play on words. keep up the good work.
The restaurants owner Rick Camuglia told CBS affiliate KRQE: We didnt think anybody would be offended by that. It was not our intent to offend anybody.
The sign has since been taken down by the restaurant and photos of the billboard have been taken down
Paisanos Italian Restaurant ought to make a peace offering by having a February Special- “Sweet Potato Pizza”. Toppings might include chitlins, black-eyed peas and collard greens...all on a thin-skinned crust!
Dear mz. sanchez. Last time I checked, Spain, where your ancestors came from, was part of Europe. Maybe you just “identify” with people of color.
Other than that Oberon, your statement is pretty much on point. Talk about not letting a festering wound heal. Of course hypocrisy in NOT in their lexicon.
All the owner has to reply is “It’s the pits!”
But I’m sure she’s had black olives a hundred times...and feeds them to her family. About 2 calories to a can.
Send your money to me, I'll go there for you and brave the crowds.
Thats' IYAS9YAS, PO Box 12345, Albuquirky, NM 87111...

Oops! It was just a typo.....
Great photo! Goes into my Photobucket Archives.
And, meanwhile, the social-media uproar has created YUGE amounts of free advertising for Paisanos.
Too bad there too far away to go and enjoy some slices.
As an Italian man with a tan I am offended that a woman of color doesn’t think black olives matter. They matter a great deal to many of mamma’s recipes.
Claudia Sanchez needs to get over herself and knock it of with that dumbsh*t “woman of color” nonsense. As a man of no color, she offends me.
Agreed!...BLACK OLIVES DO MATTER!
I work w/ our local animal shelter(the sweetie we adopted last Tuesday is snuggling next to me) & sadly black dogs are the least adopted group.
Irony is ironic!
Thats awesome! Saved!
