Trump insists Pence was ‘my first choice from the start’

Donald Trump on Saturday insisted Indiana Gov. Mike Pence was his first choice for a running mate, as reports emerge that he considered changing his VP pick at the last second.

Trump called Pence “my first choice from start” in a tweet hyping Saturday’s joint press conference with the Indiana governor.

Donald J. Trump ✔@realDonaldTrump

Look forward to introducing Governor Mike Pence (who has done a spectacular job in the great State of Indiana). My first choice from start!

What he's saying is that when all cards were on the table, he didn't change his mind. He looked at the big picture.

Christie fits AG. Newt fits "Top advisor" (without the publicity). Guiliani....whatever he wants...Homeland Security?? Wish he would run for Governor of NYS....so we can get this place cleaned up.

I believe him because I named Pence WAY back when we were all asked for our predictions and I was only temporarily disappointed when Pence endorsed Cruz, but Pence’s endorsement also included praise for Mr. Trump.

Add to your list....General Flynn. Full time advisor on Radical Islamic Terrorism. He’ll be too busy and too important to campaign for anything.

Standard MSM ploy. Unnamed sources “close to the insiders.”

Pence, being a true Christian, most likely changed his view of Cruz when he discovered Cruz for what he is.

That Pence endorsement of Cruz was so ambivalent that even the NBC "news analysts" were saying it was practically an endorsement to vote for Trump. I took it as an endorsement of Pence's character. He had made a promise to endorse Cruz, and stuck to it. Trump likes loyalty and he likes those who keep their word.

That Pence endorsed some of the trade deals that turned out poorly and his earlier statements opposing the temporary ban on Muslims from countries with terrorism issues is irrelevant. A lot of people have come around to Trump's way of thinking because of the horrific recent events.

I like the choice on the surface, as long as:

1) Pence will be good in the debates

2) He can tip two battleground Rust Belt states that Romney lost back to the “R” column. That would include any two of OH, PA, MI, WI, MN. I assume IL is a lost cause.

In this election we have probably the two most well known and publicized POTUS candidates ever.

It’s difficult for me to imagine the VP candidate having any measurable effect.

Other than perhaps Hillary’s Negro/Hispanic boy stimulating the ‘hood turnout a bit.

... the MSM, having exhausted the meme that the GOP rules committee would vote to unbind the delegates, has now moved not to the next bit of propaganda.

One might note how once the rules committee voted down the idea of unbinding the delegates, how the MSM didn’t have much to say on the issue.

Does it matter when Mr. Trump made his decision?

He took into consideration all the facts in light of what needs to be done to return is to the land of the free; the home of the brave.

Donald J. is also privy to much more sensitive information than we are, so that has been taken into consideration as well.

This is a non-issue.

You mean Chi town is a lost cause, like TN it Memphis, NY it’s NYC. The populations are so large, black, libtards, that they rule the rest of the state.

Ill. used to be a big steel mill producer.

I grew up in Hammond, IN, 30 miles from Chi Town, it was full of the old Mayor Daily then as it is now. Steel mills flourished, some of the highest Blue Collar jobs to be had in the 30 mile radius extending into Ind. Not any more. It comes from China now.

Memphis is a little Chi Town. Nashville has halve the crime rate.

I like how Trump operates. Hillary responds accordingly. She's become robotic so you can predict what her response will be.

Trump will have to find a method to stump her.

Perhaps Libya, Eqypt, Iraq.....

Remember, it was the Dem party under Bubba who first wanted Saddam to be assassinated....which is against international law.

1. He would be above average, and exceed expectations. Will clobber any of the likely VP picks. His intelligence, experience at both state executive and federal legislature, hosting radio/TV shows, and low-key demeanor all help.

2. He may not hand those states directly to Trump, but will force Dems to direct resources to the area. Those states are big enough that the man on the street in IL and WI (where I've lived) really don't hear much about Pence, or have any reason to think about him. That said, his record and demeanor play better in the heartland to some mid-westerners than Trump. He will also help "hold-your-nose" Trump supporters get excited about the election and work for the team.
