Many years ago, journalist Michael Kinsley secured a place in our history when he observed that a faux pas is when you blurt out the truth in Washington.
Last Friday, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg committed a faux pas in a New York Times interview, blurting out the truth that she is intensely partisan and decides major cases on ideological grounds.
Federal judges are supposed to keep out of the political mud, but Justice Ginsburg opined that Donald Trump would be a national disaster. I cant imagine what the country would be with Donald Trump as our president, she said, adding that the prospect of a Trump presidency made her think about moving to New Zealand.
Furthermore, she also revealed that her mind is made up on possible future cases that could come before the Court. She wants a chance to overrule the big Second Amendment decision District of Columbia v. Heller, for one. Ginsburg, like nearly all progressives, is hostile to the idea, clearly articulated in that decision by the late Justice Scalia, that the Constitution protects the right of individuals to keep and bear arms.
For another, Justice Ginsburg says she wants to overturn Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. That is the decision, denounced by Barack Obama in his 2010 State of the Union address with the members of the Court seated in front of him, that keeps the government from clamping down on free speech for parties Ginsburg, Obama, and many others would like to silence on political matters, especially corporations.
So, we now understand that facts and arguments in cases raising First and Second Amendment issues would not matter to Justice Ginsburg. She has her agenda and her mind is made up.

Faux pas?
Non.
I feel they talked about Jackson the same way.
They ended up naming an Era for him
Do justices recuse themselves from cases? Can they be forced to?
Any SCOTUS justice who “blurts” is ready for immediate retirement.
They’re all just political appointees now. We need to change the way they’re selected. Might as well pick them by vote and add term limits. No more life time appointments.
Ginsberg is a national disaster.
I believe Kinsley used the word “gaffe,” not “faux pas.” Don’t these magazines have editors and fact checkers any more?
Yes, she’s a disaster and only THREE Republican senators opposed the confirmation of this leftist loon. They would rather be members of the “club” than stand up for the supposed beliefs that got them elected; strange, when the Senate Democrats are presented with someone far more intelligent and moderate in their views like Judge Bork, they fight like tigers and unlike their timid Republican counterparts, don’t seem to care what the opposition thinks and whether they might be invited to a bipartisan golf match at Congressional Country Club.
These Leftists think the country is so much under their control, and therefore overthrown, that they can sometimes let the truth about their motives slip out.
More like the Ministry of Truth.
We seem to be living the movie Brazil ...
I remember the outrage when Justice Samuel Alito mouthed the words “not true” when President Barack Obama criticized the Supreme Court’s campaign finance decision.
Of course they would be hollering for Thomas to step down or be impeached. It would be a 24/7 steady drumbeat. FOX fag shep would be mincing around the studio tisking at the loss of trust.
Ginsberg is garbage and so are some 47 percent of the American population.
Personally, I prefer an apolitical SCOTUS.
Hey! There can't be a living person's image on American currency!
Congress! Stop him!
Priceless! When a conservative speaks actual Truth, the same folks are up in arms and want apologies and punishment - when a Lefty spews crap, they want them to stand in it (there’s a picture for one’s mind)....
I agree with you. I was disgusted when I read the title, but the actual article may be a surprise. The author is on our side.
They would rather be members of the club
Agree 100% it’s why D.C. is in the mess it’s in no spines.
