As dawn broke in Istanbul on Saturday, Turkey's largest city, it was still unclear whether an attempt by the military to wrest control from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had been successful.

A defiant Erdogan addressed crowds in the city, telling them that the coup had been quashed. "The government is in control," he told supporters.

Erdogan will push into the Balkans after he purges the ranks and destroys the Turkish military ethos, refugees followed by muslim tank corps to protect the human flotsam from yet another “ethnic cleansing”.... seen this movie before, didn’t like it the first time.

Ottoman Empire Redux And there will be no NATO push back, or maybe NATO will slam the Slavs again bring Mother Russia the protector back.

They should have started the coup by putting a bullet in Erdogan’s head, that would have ensured win or lose, at least he wouldn’t be returning to power.

That worked with Allende in Chile, Diem in South Vietnam, and Ceaucescu in Romania. Hitler and Stalin's purges quickly eliminated their enemies. The coup leaders failed to knock out Erdogan immediately.

I suspect the Russians supported the coup attempt. Russia is allied with the more secular factions in the Middle East, supporting the Syrian government while the U.S. and NATO are on the side of one of the major terrorist factions. The recent improvement in Israeli-Russian relations is reflective of the recognition on Netanyahu's part that Putin is more reliable than Obama.

If Trump is elected President, the United States, Russia, and Israel will be playing on the same team. This will bode well in dealing with the Islamic terrorist scum.

Unless it is true that the coup really was just the minority Gulenist faction of the military and the majority of the military, who are (hopefully) Kemalist, weren’t backing it or even aware.

Saw this on Yahoo news first and it turned my soul to ice. Jesus Christ, son of Almighty God, save our poor world. May this not yet be the first domino that causes the rest to fall.

I don't do amusement parks. Btw the LA riots last nearly 7 days with thousands injured, dozens killed, nearly 12,000 arrests, about 1200 building destroyed. This turkey coup lasted what, 12 hours? ☺

Me neither. Pretty much avoiding crowds of any size.

Sorry to say that I wish the good guys had been more motivated.

“First mission of any coup, Capture/kill the leader. It always fail if you fail to do this”

It didn’t fail in Honduras when they ousted Mel Zelaya, though contrary to Obama and Hillary’s rantings it wasn’t actually a “coup”.

I sat on pins and needles all that night chanting to myself, “Kill him! Kill him!”, but they didn’t. He didn’t regain power but he’s been a royal pain in the butt to the country ever since.

Putin has the balls and the firepower to crush NATO like an egg.

If he did, he would have.

He doesn't.

Dream on Russkie.

The Rand study was an analysis of NATO's ability to defend the Baltic States in the event of a surprise attack, and it isn't news. NATO war strategy has always assumed early Soviet (or in this case, NeoSoviet) gains.

It wasn’t planned well and looks like they didn’t have enough defectors. Everything should have been put into motion as soon as they either killed or seized an unsuspecting president.

And all those executions will have meaning around the world. “Here’s what happens when you try to overthrow the government.”

I’m surprised some low ranking officers got that many people to follow them. The only way to have pulled that off would be by assassination.

The only way to have stopped Erdogan, or Obama, would have been for all the high ranking officers to join ranks when the first good man was purged. That didn’t happen. Now it’s too late unless Trump can make it in and re-instate them all and purge all of Obama’s cronies.

The Rand study is a current assessment based on the new Russian military and I have verification from those in authority.

The Rand study is about the weakness of defenses in the Baltic states. Don’t get your hopes up, Russky.

The “radical” in Pennsylvania seems to have a view of Islam that would be more like Buddhaism. Peaceful, meditative, contemplative.

In addition to this the Baltic states have bought about 1500 javelin anti-tank missiles and plenty of launchers since the study was made. And if that is not enough there is now 400 javelin missiles on loan from the US army. Loan means the missiles belong to the US, but if there is a war with Russia then the understanding is that the Baltic countries can use these and settle the loan later.

I am not a Russian but an American who is a professional in this area and I just came back from a political fundraiser where we talked about these issues in detail. Congressman Rob Wittman (R-1st CD, VA) who is the Chairman on the House Armed Forces Committee was one of the primary guest speakers who raised these concerns.

http://wittman.house.gov/

Unfortunately NATO is not up to defending itself against Russia as its members have degraded combat capabilities because of socialist governments where defense spending has not been a high priority. Under Obama who has been a complete and utter disaster as CIC our military has suffered and when you have to go to a military museum to get parts from decommissioned aircraft you are in serious trouble:

http://www.marinecorpstimes.com/story/military/2016/04/26/fleet-peril-how-congressional-budget-cuts-are-crippling-the-marines-air-power/81974498/

These are also the plain facts being reported by our own military about our condition which is similar to when Jimmy Carter was our president. Here is an eye opening article written telling the concerns by some of our generals with recent combat experience:

http://www.politico.eu/article/inside-the-pentagons-fight-over-russia-us-eastern-europe/

I am just as patriotic or more so than you are but I am a realist and raise these concerns to reverse the situation where we are at. You and many others are just like many of the people described in Bruce Springsteen’s “Glory Days” who revel in the glories of their past because they cannot deal with the realities of where they are when they have degraded in life. It is up to you and those like you to wake up and let your congressman and senators have it, go to town meetings and go vote to fix this situation.
