The vice president is only important in the event something happens to the president, as well, as a vote in the Senate when the votes are divided equally. He breaks that deadlock.
He also brings knowledge as to who to get things through legislation. Him along with Newt will prove to be invaluable.
He also gives people who might not have voted for Trump a reason to do so now, much like Palin with McCain.
