Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Thursday called for the U.S. to test every person with a Muslim background to see if they believe in Sharia law, and deport those who do.
"Let me be as blunt and direct as I can be. Western civilization is in a war. We should frankly test every person here who is of a Muslim background, and if they believe in Sharia, they should be deported," Gingrich said in an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity.
"Sharia is incompatible with Western civilization. Modern Muslims who have given up Sharia, glad to have them as citizens. Perfectly happy to have them next door."
His remarks came in light of a terror attack in Nice, France, where a large truck plowed through a crowd, killing as many as 80 people.
"How do we ascertain -- how do you possibly ascertain whether or not that person really wants assimilation, really wants a new life, or whether or not they want to expand that caliphate, which is what we're at war against?" Hannity asked.
"The first step is you have to ask them the questions," Gingrich responded. "The second step is you have to monitor what they're doing on the Internet. The third step is, let me be very clear, you have to monitor the mosques. I mean, if you're not prepared to monitor the mosques, this whole thing is a joke. Where do you think the primary source of recruitment is? Where do you think the primary place of indoctrination is? You've got to look at the madrassas -- if you're a school which is teaching Sharia, you want to expel it from the country."

It wouldn't surprise me if he walks it back with a "what I really meant was..."
The Sharia law test should be administered to every aspiring immigrant to the USA. If failed, it means that the immigrant will never assimilate, nor will their children.

Newt knows exactly what must be done.
You don't think big enough. It's how you implement the task, you put it everywhere, you make them question whether it's worth it to betray us or even live here constantly.
Let's say Mr. Naturalized wants to sponsor cousin Adbulshet to come here from Syria. Mr. Naturalized must first re-swear his Oath of Allegiance at application time:

And while he's pledging that out loud, Mr. Naturalized is also getting an iris scan.

He's right but he said this wrong. The Left will jump all over it. You might as well ask a Christian if he believes in Christ. Sharia is the goal of all Muslims. The better question is whether they intend to impose Sharia on the West. They will deny it, of course... but that is the more appropriate litmus test.
On a side note: This is what the Spanish Inquisition was about... getting rid of the "closet" Muslims in government after the Catholic monarchy was restored following centuries of Moorish rule. Just thought you'd like to know we're still fighting the same fight.
That said, I think he needs to ‘fill in the blanks’ somewhat when it comes to speaking about what he'll do. He doesn't need to give absolute details, that can be shot at, but to give lists of viable options that he is considering, and to make the point that unlike those who don't meet with or listen to advisors, he will surround himself with the very best, and together they will define real solutions that are based on what is best for the country - not what fits a political agenda or what pleases the financial donors who ‘own’ or influence too many politicians.
At least something along those lines.

If we have a formal declaration of war, then the law against treason comes into play; “aiding and abetting the enemy in time of war”.

It remains debatable whether Sharia (the political/legal system) CAN be separated from Islam (the religious faith) --- many say they can't ---but what makes this "religious faith" uniquely offensive is that Islam IS attached to Sharia.
And Sharia is not just a public ethical aspiration, on the level of "thy Kingdom come, the will be done, one earth as it is in heaven." THAT (a phrase from Christianity's most central prayer, the "Lord's Prayer" or "Our Father") is a pledge of a believer's moral behavior, not a political program.
But Sharia has 1400 years of formal jurisprudence behind it. It has been a program of political domination and conquest from Day One, and remains so. It is a legal code built for propagation by force.
People have to understand this. I think Gingrich gets it.

In a rare display of bipartisanship, his buddies (GWB and company) and his Democrat adversaries created an indoctrination program to assure that Americans understand that Islam is a religion of peace. Government-run schools have incorporated in their curricula and the media propagandizes this message continuously.
Trump is making a mistake in choosing Pence over Newt.
Trump has stirred the electorate with apopulist message.
Newt is populism with a plan. That’s the weak link in Trump’s armor: the ability to break down the solution like a double barrel shotgun.
