Fifty years ago a stranger with a pockmarked face and a "Born To Raise Hell" tattoo on his left arm barged into a Chicago townhouse where a group of student nurses were living and proceeded to lead them "like lambs to the slaughter."
The intruder's name was Richard Speck and for five hours he systematically tortured and murdered eight women, raping at least one of them.
***
The crime horrified Chicago and the rest of the country because it was so unfathomable a massacre for no apparent reason by a remorseless stranger against a group of young women he didn't know.
And it introduced a term to the American public that has since then become all too familiar: random mass murder.

When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, peoples hearts are filled with schemes to do wrong.

Nikki was beaten, RAPED, strangled with her own shoelaces, wrapped in a green blanket, which was then tied, by David Keen, he dumped her body into the river off the old Auction Street Boat Dock in Memphis, TN. She drowned to death. Nikki was alive as Keen RAPED her. DNA proved he did and he eventually confessed to the crime. 2 juries, up held the Death Sentence. All State and Federals Appeals are done. Yet he still sits on Tennessee Death Row because Tennessee’s RINO governor won’t sign the Death Warrant for this Child Rapist/Killer.
It’s 2016 still Nikki’s mother is still waiting for JUSTICE!

INJUSTICE SYSTEM STRETCHES FROM THE COURT HOUSE TO THE STATE HOUSE AND WHITE HOUSE.
I read “Helter Skelter” when I was way too young. I wish I never had
Unimaginable horror
WTF does this have to do with current events?
NBC is not the History Channel.
This is an obvious attempt to steer eyes away from current events.
NBC and the rest of the MSM are bought and paid for.
Yes. The case is a disgusting travesty of justice. I often wonder how many judges have committed what amounts to capital offenses.
Round number anniversaries like this always get media play.
Not even in degree; just in the direction that it was channeled.
Speck was some sort of homosexual/transsexual as well (of course, both of these traits are signs of mental illness - I’m sorry but it’s true) and loved being in prison where the drugs were rampant.
He looks like fetal alcohol syndrome.
Oh don’t get me started on “Helter Skelter”!!!
And apparently I freaked out as a little girl when my babysitter let us watch Psycho. Teenagers don’t know what moms know: you don’t expose children to this stuff at all...movies/news, whatever. Half the time adults can’t process it.
Bad potty training. Or so the Court appointed psychiatrists would say.
This was a horrible crime which shocked the sensibilities. It captured the country and was a sign that things were changing and not in a positive way. I remember as a young girl in California the fear people had before they captured Speck. Speck should have been executed. I cannot believe its already been 50 years.
26 years later, two juries, obvious guilt and poor girl has gotten no justice courtesy of a “Republican” governor? Amazing. In my view, the real mess started with the Warren Court’s obsequious attention to the “rights” of extreme criminals; the best approach if they are so interested in keeping this scum alive and “rehabilitated” is to put them on a work release program working in the “justice’s” homes. Perhaps even one who is senile and lost her mind like Ruth Bader Ginsburg might have enough sense left to change their minds.
I wonder if there were other Speck rampages that no one knows about because of the lack of survivors?
August 1 will be the 50th anniversary of the University of Texas Tower shooter, Charles Whitman. He killed 16. There was no assault weapon to blame, just Whitman, who was evidently a mental case.
I can remember cringing in disbelief watching the events on tv.
There was the first mass shooting atrocity about two weeks later when Charles Joseph Whitman went into the tower at the University of Texas, Austin, and shot about twenty people before an officer killed him. Spec and Whitman seem to have started the whole mass murder thing.
Extremely violent sociopaths like Speck are the exception.
Most know how to control their impulses. Its the ones who don’t who get into the headlines.
Ping
Speck was one of the worse. He talked about stabbing one of the nurses, and she was saying “it hurts, it really hurts, please stop, it hurts” he tells this part of the story with a chuckle.
We should have killed him long before he died.
