The Queen shocked regulars at one of Edinburgh's best-known pubs by dropping in for a bite to eat after a day at the races, it has emerged.
She visited The Sheep Heid Inn on Friday night after giving staff an hours notice of her impending visit.

A couple of Brit hitch hikers stayed with me for a few days around the time Diana and Charles were married.
One guy was a royalist and the other a raving socialist.
The royalist was mesmerized watching the wedding on our little black and white tv.
The Socialist was practically pulling his hair out in raving disgust.
Her uncle resigned to be w/ the woman he loved, Wallis Simpson. Her father, who never wanted to be king became king. He died while she was on her honeymoon in Africa I believe & she came home & became queen. She is a class act.
I know all about the English eating lamb. The captain of the 115 ft. yacht that I lived on, and was the cook for, was an Aussie. We had roast leg of lamb with mint jelly(?) at least once a week. He was a hard drinker, but could get you anywhere on Earth with a ship, a chart,a compass, and a course.
When I was in Scotland a few years ago, there seemed to be more sheep than people.
Yes, a class act. There is a great little 24 page booklet about the night she became Queen in 1953 while staying in a tree house in the African bush. She was guarded from leopards and such by the famous man-eating tiger hunter from British India, Jim Corbett, who wrote the little booklet about her called "Tree Tops". He is most famous for his book, "Man-eaters of Kumaon."
I was just reading that this will be the 14th PM in her reign. Makes me think of the saying “familiarity breeds contempt”...

Oh thanks! I am going to check out his book. A few summers ago I read Lord Mountbatten’s daughter’s memoir. It was wonderful. I believe she has a new one coming out if it’s not out already.
Cool get up!
Winner! That's exactly why she was there. Lots of hard feeling among my stupid commie Scot brethren after the Brexit vote.
I had read that when she was in uniform, she was accompanying her Mother, the Queen, who was walking on some uneven ground. The Queen was having a problem -— wearing heels, so Princess Elizabeth took off her sensible shoes and let her Mother wear them. Elizabeth walked in her stocking feet.
I’ve tried to find this story on a search site, but can’t. But I remember the story and seeing the picture in the newspaper.
A bit of Pict, a dash of Celt, a heavy splash of Germanic, a hint of Gaul and a sprinkling of Roman.
Hey don’t forget the Norse men!
And built on a base of the Beaker People. And who ever came before them.
Britain is almost as much a hodgepodge as the Americas.
What about the Normans and the Saxons?
Says the cheeky Oz slept-thru-histry lessons Scottish/Irish/Pommie laugh-at-the-snotties jokester... :)
And isn’t it true that the majority of peoples living in ireland when oliver cromwell went through there were in fact brit-twits, and the only “irish” were located in scattered tiny bands of mostly brigands who only later attempted to distinguish themselves from their English ancesters?
(adjusting flame-proof knickers now, lol!)
