Former Gov. Ed Rendell says Donald Trump’s message on trade is largely correct, but that his tone is sometimes wrong on the subject.
Rendell, who is the chair of the Democratic convention host committee, made the comments on SiriusXM radio’s The Dean Obeidallah Show.
“The interesting thing is, I talk about China and the fact that China took advantage of us in trade and cost Pennsylvania some significant jobs, and I quoted Donald Trump in the book,” Rendell said, noting Trump backed him heavily when he ran for governor.
Rendell’s 2012 book praises Trump as “a friend” who is right on China.
“You know all that Donald Trump says isn’t wrong,” continued Rendell. “It’s the way he says it — and there are many things he does say that’s wrong. But he’s right about China. We have for some reason not stood up to China. We’ve allowed them to manipulate their currency, which gives their businesses tremendous advantage in selling to America. They came in here and tried to dump low-priced, subsidized steel pipe to get rid of the steel pipe industry in the U.S.”
Rendell said he fought hard against China dumping steel in his state, but they lost many jobs in the process.
“So, there are some things that Donald Trump talks about that do have a germ of reason or a germ of truth,” said Rendell.
Still, Rendell said he was not supporting Trump because of his rhetoric, saying he was trying to “divide us.”

FYI Fast Eddie is royally p*ssed at the Clintons for letting him go out and defend her with what turned out to be a bunch of lies about the server.
Yep!
A lot of politicians “campaign” well: Bill Clinton, Barack Obama may be examples. They got elected, right? So — they know how to campaign.
But did they govern effectively?
Trump has a “tone” problem? Does this work against his political popularity? Does it (perhaps) hurt his campaign?
Who cares? I don’t want a “campaigner”. I want someone who can govern. If Trump is “right” then I do not care about his “tone”.
Mitt Romney’s “tone” was just about pitch perfect.
Couldn’t win.
far better a “germ” of truth and reason...Trump...than a GERM...Hillary.
He is right though. TPP, NAFTA, pretty much any free trade deal is hugely unpopular here in PA.
;)

"Trumps comments like, 'You cant be a 10 if youre flat-chested, thatll come back to haunt him. There are probably more ugly women in America than attractive women. People take that stuff personally."
Rendell may be in the same position that Gen. Colin Powell felt he was put in near the end of GWB first term. General Powell made the TV rounds with charts and spreadsheets,
and satellite photographs, defending the White House presumption of Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq, only to be told later that there were none, and the theory was in error.
I don’t think Powell ever forgave the Bush Administration for tying his name to that whole mess. I’m still of the mind that, yes, there were W.M.D.s. Hans Blix just never found them or admitted to finding them. Whatever happened to Hans Blix? That was so long ago (2004).
Debbie Wasserman Schultz is not going to be very happy about Rendell’s candid remarks.
Ed had better be advised to watch his back. He may have made some fatal mistake here, since we have been told that when HRC is CIC, Bill will be in charge of the economy. Ed took them both out with just a few words. They are not going to be pleased.
Further, Thomas Jefferson, that outstanding mind of the founding period, stated:"State a moral case to a ploughman and a professor. The former will decide it as well, and often better than the latter, because he has not been led astray by artificial rules." - -- Thomas Jefferson, 1787
The pundits and politicians who believe a mere "businessman" can't make judgments that might favorably improve America's dismal moral dilemma today might want to "get off their high horses," to quote a famous "progressive."
Ed will be fine. He and the Philly Mob are sympatico.
He did insane things to the turnpike tools though.
Round-trip from York County was over forty bucks!
China did not “take advantage of us in trade”. Our corporations, in cooperation with the Federal Government, joined forces with the Chinese in pursuit of cheap labor.
You are so right about that...China did not operate in a vacume. They got assistance from our government by way of its subsidizing the multi national corps.
When Ike left office he said something to effect to be careful of the military industrial complex. We now know that they so over estimated Soviet strength to have caused us to spend huge amounts of money and personnel resources fighting a shadow enemy. Today, that same complex has shifted focus from having a strong enemy to spend against to promoting “trade” by way of cheap labor to line their bottom lines. No one is going to change my opinion on this.
That part of his speech was largely ignored by the media.
As a result, we are being burdened with the Global Warming scam.
