I wonder what this is all about? Evan Bayh quit politics a few years ago, but now he wants back in? Hill quits to let Bayh run?

Politics is a career magnet to those who are too incompetent to do anything else.

There is no nectar as sweet as the nectar of power.
That is something that money cannot replace. Even the kind of money to made by former national politicians.

Hill was getting no traction at all, here in Indiana. To pull Bayh out of the ash-heap of political history though, is a Democratic equivalent of a “Hail, Mary” pass. The Dems are pulling out all the stops in an effort to re-take the Senate.

According to Baron Hill’s statement, he is withdrawing because he knows he can’t win.

Did Bayh think reelection back then was impossible because of Obamacare vote?

With the likelihood of Pence becoming the VP, this opens up the governors race in the dems eyes. Adding a Byah into the race may help win the senate, in the dems eyes.

The dems are gambling here. They will either win big or loose big.

To quote a little white haired lady (wearing her garden hat and gloves) who lived across the street from BH while he was growing up
“ That GD SOB never did an honest day’s work in his entire life! He’s the laziest Fn spoilt brat/Jock - Didn’t even help his dad mow their little yard. “.

She actually said each word- no abbreviations It was my BLAZING SADDLES moment while campaigning for a candidate years ago when Hill was our congressman

With Birch III running, will this also put Indiana more in play for the Witch. My aging mind seems to remember the Bayh name being golden in Hoosier state politics.

Maybe. But maybe not given in today’s political climate.

“I wonder what this is all about? Evan Bayh quit politics a few years ago, but now he wants back in? Hill quits to let Bayh run?”

Could be part of a long term plan. Get Bayh in the Senate so he can help take the Democrats more toward the center after Bernie and Hillary took the party so far to the Left. If Hillary loses this year, Bayh would be the number one contender for 2020. He’s the right age, has experience, can claim he re-entered politics to “save the country” (or some such bs), etc.
