Deadly officer-involved shootings of two black men, one in Louisiana and another in Minnesota, have the attention of the country and that of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Sunday night, a group here in Memphis marched across the city and onto the I-40 bridge.
It started as a peaceful rally at FedExForum with hundreds of people.
After rallying at FedExForum, the crowd marched to police headquarters at 201 Poplar and then continued on, with more people joining them as they went on.
The marchers attempted to go to the I-40 bridge, but police blocked the entrance to the bridge. They eventually found a way onto the bridge via the exit ramp, and police had trouble stopping them.
Traffic was forced to a standstill, and the bridge was closed as police ordered the protesters to exit.
There was still a crowd of marchers who did not make it onto the bridge, as well as a big group still back at FedExForum.
There was a big police presence surrounding the rally and march, including a police helicopter and officers in tactical gear. Interim Police Director Michael Rallings was also at the rally, and things heated up when protestors interrupted him.
Yes we also went to Tupelo !!!

Visited there several years ago. Elvis and his twin brother were born in a rather small house (2 rms.)
The house is still there and theres a chapel built next door..
Are the rioters saying “WE PAY YOUR BILLS” ???
do they work and pay taxes ???
Whites don’t live downtown...like here in “St. Louis”.
the police leader and the older protest leaders(maybe a reverend??) and another gentleman who said he rushed there so “these kids wouldn’t get into trouble” did a good job on the bridge keeping it peaceful at the end
bridge is opened now
USE THE OLD BRIDGE then. These idiots may be back.
Last year during Elvis Week, there was a Canadian couple here with their little dog. They stopped at a Chinese restaurant one night and left the dog in the car. Being Memphis, someone came by and stole the dog. The people had to leave Memphis the next day so they couldn’t hang around to look for the dog. By sheer luck, the dog was found AND returned to its owners. They came back the Memphis to retrieve their dog and had some type of ceremony in the mayor’s office.
Lesson learned: do not leave anything of value in your car in Memphis wether you’re a resident or visitor. I live here so I know.
BTW, there was a little girl who is a patient at St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital coming across the bridge from Arkansas and they got a police escort through the herd. The herd was nice enough to let them through.
They did let 1 child on the way to St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer hospital through.
Included the Memphis interim Police Chief.
Black and White Police officers, interim Memphis Police Chief is BLACK, they are always black. Neither the city or county mayor was there.
We migrated into Tipton Co 3 yrs ago, our car, house ins and property taxes all went down by a third.
Trapped in their cars as they blocked at least 2 exit ramps.
Same city the FBI had their weapons stolen out of their car trunks a few years back. What Law Enforcement IDIOT would leave their weapons in the trunk of their car at a motel in a big city like Memphis?
“...What Law Enforcement IDIOT would leave their weapons in the trunk of their car at a motel in a big city like Memphis?...”
One that didn’t get the memo detailing how things are done in River City.
Thank you, Gail. I appreciate it. There is so little reporting on it, I was concerned for those in peril on that damn bridge for five hours. The young, the old, the sick, infants, no water, etc..
Terrible, terrible tactics.
Read where maybe it is dying down and they are returning from the bridge to back down town, and police are lining up to greet them?
These selfish people probably were thirsty and hungry themselves.
They best not be armed and go to Beale St, that is closed to traffic, and you have to have a wrist band to get in and the bars most all have metal testing walk thru devices.
I agree
Yes. America needs to turn back to God or we won’t survive.
Nope. Don’t care.
Make it “well” into Arkansas. Way past West Memphis.
