Finding workers a critical need in the county. (An article about lack of qualified workers)
Casey County News ^ | July 5, 2016 | Larry Rowell

Factories such as Tarter Industries are having problems meeting current production needs because of a critical shortage of workers. And, expansion plans for 2017 may have to be put on hold if workers cannot be found, said Travis Cox, vice president and general manager for Tarter Industries.

“Lack of workers is now my No. 1 inhibiting growth factor, bar none,” said Cox. “My last shortage report shows we are about 75-80 people under full budget head count. That’s just trying to keep up, not growing and expanding.”

Cox said TI is aggressively searching within two counties on each side of Casey County to try and attract workers.

“Tarter announced in March new starting pay would be $10.10 an hour. Nobody in the company would make less than $10.10 an hour,” he said.

In addition, Cox said the company has “poured a ton of money” into health plans to make health insurance more affordable as well as upping vacation days and holidays to try and give workers more time off.

We have the lowest labor participation rates in 38 years. There are 94 million Americans between the ages of 16 to 65 not in the work force. We have a surplus of labor. Otherwise wages would be going up, not down.

We bring in 1.1 million legal permanent immigrants a year along with 640,000 guest workers annually. Immigrants are taking American jobs and depressing wages.

A few years back I complimented a plant manager on his expansion. It took him over a year to staff up for the expansion. He couldn’t find people that would pass the drug tests and then come to work

He offered better than the local average starting wage.

For him to be telling me his problem it meant it was common knowledge and a real problem

Drug Testing is Fascism, Does your employer OWN you?? Do they have any right to dictate what you do in your life when Not on the Job?? Now if you show up loaded then fine, fire their ass.

But until Drug Testing policies are expanded to Cover Every Last Person in the Business, including Owners,Executives, and even SHAREHOLDERS. Why should they be exempt from the Companies Official Drug Testing Policy?? Why would anyone ever agree to take one when it is Obviously Discriminatory?

I have been self employed since 1983, drug testing started years Later. And I would NEVER TAKE ON For any reason.

I have only had 1 occasion in my life where I was asked to take a Drug Test, it was during the Custody Hearing of my 7 yr old daughter. The Judge Asked my lawyer If I would take a drug test, I said NO Your Honor, I quit Testing Drugs after High School, I know which ones I like. My Lawyer and the Judfe both looked at me and told me that what he means is he wants me to pee in a cup to see if I was taking Drugs. My response in Open Court was “What day do you go take yours your Honor, I will drive, we can go together”. The Judge decided NO Drug Testing would be necessary and awarded me FULL CUSTODY, with Monitored Visitation at My Discretion for the Egg Donor.

Henry Ford doubled wages to recruit and retain workers.

Management today relies on outsourcing, H1B and third world immigrants to keep wages low.

Cannabinoids stay in your body for a reason.

They were designed for us by The One that designed us.

The whole cannabis criminality goes back to before the 30's. Henry Ford designed a vehicle that was mostly made of, and ran off of cannabis.

Just think if we had never become dependent on ME oil? Of course this was not according to their plans for global conquest and domination. It had to be stopped.

A plant that is described twice in the first chapter of Genesis. The first time it is to establish it was made by Him. The second time he presents it to us as the first gift to mankind. A plant that prevents blindness! Physically and spiritually. It pretty much fed, clothed, and housed mankind since before recorded history. How could such a useful plant suddenly become criminal?

Industries and big pocket CEOs are at fault. They refuse to hire someone and TRAIN them. They don’t want them for 40 years only for putting money in their pockets. Well they pay the piper for their greed.

The “cheap foreign labor “ that’s been imported isn’t doing their part.

There are plenty of low skilled people not working (our city has large Mexican and Somali populations) and plenty of entry level jobs open. Every store/restaurant in our area is hiring. Subway increased its hiring bonus from $50 to $100. Minimum wage is $9.00/hour. Precious few people are willing to work.

I work in food service-tips bring us over minimum wage but it requires more skills and hard work. We are seriously short staffed because no one is applying. Those that do (young people) usually quit after a month or so because it’s intense and demanding.

My 16 year old is a shift manager at a nearby fast food place right by a popular beach. Extremely busy and getting zero applicants.

The HR Manager for a small factory about 70 miles from Pittsburgh told me that 62% of job applicants were failing the drug test.

As more and more states legalize marijuana, will more and more be high on drugs?

In states where it’s legal now, anybody know, is it still legal to do drug testing for jobs?

In a capitalist system when there's a worker shortage the company must raise wages to attract workers.

That's how it's done.

Trust me, if Tarter Industries was offering three hundred bucks an hour they'd have people coming from all over the county to work... Guys with PhD’s would be in line with high school dropouts... and all of 'em would have a strong work ethic.

Don't buy into rip off excuses that undercut the American worker.

The work 'ethic' can be taught by management...to AMERICANS. And yes, it takes more effort than hiring desperate third world 'slavery/lite' types. Have we fallen that far?

This sounds like a pity party bid for the CHEAP LABOR EXPRESS... for illegals to be used to keep wages low... I'm not buying it.

You nailed it.
Benefits of not working exceed the benefits of working.

In just about every case. Working isn’t even a breakeven proposition compared to being on the dole. On the dole you gets to do whacha’ wants to do doncha’ know?

It is a very simple evaluation encouraged by not working being a standard way of life. Effort is required to get up every mornig and go to work. There has to be an incentive, either positive or negative, to get up and do something. The positive is more money, self esteem, etc. The negative is you don’t get a thing for not working and youse an your chillens’ starve to death. Of course that could never be allowed to happen.

If 50% of the indians decided they would not hunt and gather there would have been 50% fewer injuns to fight when the white man got here. You can bank on that and that is the way it should be now. Non productive people are of no use or consequence and deserve to be reduced in number until they get the message they are to be productive.

Nobody has the right to take from another and nobody has the right to inflict themselves on another. Nobody.

I am with you. I know a lot of drunks who can work. I know a lot of potheads that can work. Both are dangerous if they are actively high on the job. But a pothead doesn’t show up to work with a reeking hangover.

But it’s all insurance related most likely.

Supply meet demand. Raise your salaries and you will have more supply.

Or simply, offshore the production.
