Trump’s favorite dictators: In reviled tyrants, GOP nominee finds traits to praise
Washington Post ^ | June 6, 2016 | Jose De Real

Donald Trump’s regular praise for authoritarian governments and dictators has come under fresh scrutiny this week following his latest laudatory comments about the late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, whose human rights abuses and support for international terrorism made him a top enemy of the United States for decades.

“He was a bad guy, really bad guy. But you know what he did well? He killed terrorists. He did that so good,” Trump said during a campaign event in Raleigh, N.C., Tuesday evening. “They didn’t read them the rights — they didn’t talk, they were a terrorist, it was over. Today, Iraq is Harvard for terrorism. You want to be a terrorist, you go to Iraq. It’s like Harvard. Okay? So sad.”

The remarks have revived worries among Republican lawmakers and members of the party’s foreign-policy establishment, many of whom have become increasingly despondent over Trump’s loose and threatening rhetoric on international relations. Many critics in both parties also say that the presumptive GOP presidential nominee is laying out an alarmingly dark worldview that should give voters serious pause.

“This follows a disturbing trend of Trump relating to the way brutal tyrants executed policy in their countries. I do think that there’s something dark about Trump’s view of the world,” said Republican strategist Tim Miller, a former Jeb Bush aide who has played an active role in the anti-Trump movement. “When a person running for president continually compliments brutal, undemocratic dictators and their methods, I think it’s fair to have some concerns that those are methods that they might be interested in deploying if necessary.”

And just where was the Washington ComPost when A.N.S.W.E.R. was condemning the Bush administration for wanting to overthrow Saddam, since, after all, they like any dictator who makes sure there's general literacy, clean drinking water, trains that run on time...

Partisan Media Shills Alert!

Donald Trump for President!

Hey, remember how Hitlery totally blew the relationship with Russia and set the stage for Putin to invade Crimea?

I do.

When it comes to loving dictators, Trump CANNOT HOLD A CANDLE to the Democrats, in particular, their behavior towards Communist dictators during the Cold War.

My position: getting rid of Saddam was a good move. The BAD move was not replacing it with a strong pro-Western regime... and supporting it fully.

I believe Bush BEGAN that process but the man child retreated.

Whether Bush did enough can be debated, I suppose. But he didn’t run away.

I heard what Trump was saying about Saddam....he was saying he was a very bad person, but he kept his people in line, yeah he killed a lot of people and in a most horrid way, but they knew what the rules where, look where Iraq is today, and thanks to Barky and Hillary we now have ISIS...

So maybe Trump didn’t say it the way people like to hear it, but the truth is the truth and sometimes it hurts to hear it...

GO.TRUMP.GO!!! ALL THE WAY TO THE OVAL OFFICE!!!

If it had just been Iraq, it might have worked. I don't think anyone knows if Iraq could've functioned without a dictator, or if it would have divided....Kurds, Shiite, Sunni. The point is it isn't our country, they didn't have weapons of mass destruction, and we didn't belong there. Globalism might be great for the globalists, but strong national identity works best for us little folk.

As far as GWB making a good decision? A much better decision would've been to be less friendly to unnecessary immigration from other countries and also provide more security on our southern border.

It isn't just Iraq that didn't do well with regime change. Look at Libya and Egypt, and what's happened with Syria and our mischief there. It goes back even further, to the mess Clinton made of what used to be Yugoslavia. Look at Kiev. We really should get out of the globalism business and worry about the US.

There are very, very few political leaders (even the most reviled dictators) that don't have at least one admirable trait. It's a question of how their positive and negative traits balance.

That reminds me of the joke about the woman who always found good in people. Someone told her "You could find something nice to say about the devil!" She said "Well, he is a hard worker."

I probably botched it, but you get the idea. You are correct about almost all people having at least one good trait.

The ComPost calls that praise; I call it credit where credit is due.

Too much to reply to there, but let me just say: I am not for regime change for the sake of it. You’re absolutely right about Egypt and Libya. My point was replacing Saddam with a friendly was a good strategic move. Valerie and her man child, I think, destroyed that process.

And yes, Bush should’ve done better on our border.

Just one more example of media hypocrisy: Obama opening the doors to Cuba, run by a LEFTIST dictator. This gave the media a group erection. It is "historic," "breathtaking," and the media all flocked to Cuba to report on all of the awesome developments.

And, of course, for years the media and the left have praised Cuba for its health system, for eliminating corruption, for creating "equality" (everybody'd poor except the rulers) blah blah blah.

Regarding ten years, i.e., "Saddam was a creep and a thug, but he maintained stability in his country and kept the religious fanatics at bay. Ousting him created instability and chaos that was arguably worse than his continued leadership would have been." So, for saying the same thing the left said, Trump "loves dictators."

Of course, the left ALSO said, "Muslims hate us because we support dictators in their region for our own economic benefit."

Somehow I mangled my own comment. The first sentence was supposed to be, “Regarding Iraq, Trump was just re-phrasing what the left has been saying for the last ten years, i.e., . . . “

Heck, they would be orgasmic if Obama seized Power here.

I hate Hillary with a passion. I want Trump to win, so I want him to speak carefully and say what he has to, to win.

Exactly. As I posted, a variation of this article was written at least 7 separate times, and it all came out after Hillary’s press release saying this same thing.

That has been a traditional liberal position. Suddenly, Trump espouses that, and the media/liberals are sounding like neocons.
