A onetime opponent is throwing his support behind Marco Rubio.
On Wednesday, Sen. Ted Cruz said he was glad to support Rubio in his re-election bid. Cruz, a Texas Republican, was one of more than a dozen Republicans who ran for president earlier this year.
Marco Rubio is a friend and has been an ally in many battles we have fought together in the Senate. Im glad to support him in his bid for re-election, he said in a Facebook post shortly after Rubios announcement. Marco is a tremendous communicator and a powerful voice for the American Dream. At this time of great challenges, we very much need strong leaders in the Senate who will fight to restore economic growth, to defend our constitutional liberties, and to ensure a strong national security for our nation.
According to Elaina Plott with the Washingtonian, Rubio reached out to Cruz to confirm he intended to run. The Washingtonian reported Rubio asked Cruz to send out a statement urging the Miami Republican to run for re-election, but Cruz declined because he didnt want to be seen as pushing Rep. Ron DeSantis out of the race.

Rubio also appeared to get support from Ohio Republican Gov. John Kasich, another one-time presidential opponent. In a tweet Wednesday, Kasich said keeping (Rubio) serving in the Senate is good news for the people of FL & our entire nation. Good luck, Marco!

Mistake
According to Mexico. But, according to the US, he's an American citizen.
The USA does not recognize, nor concern itself, with the citizenship laws of other countries. You'd be advised to familiarize yourself with American citizenship law.
>Seems to me that most everybody agrees it was a mistake and that Cruz was simply being honest. How is that an “attack”?
It’s giving aid and comfort the media that’s trying to destroy Trump. It’s an attack. You don’t publicly frag the people you support. If they need correction, you do it in private.
I’m still waiting on waiting on your explanation on why Ted endorsed open borders tea party traitor Rubio but not Trump.
I doubt very many of those people were the strong supporters of Trump in this election. More likely, they are the ones who were diehard Cruzbots. Last time, Jim came around on Romney (before I did, but I was getting resigned to it) and declared that defeating Obama was more important than his problems with Romney's past support for abortion and Romneycare and all his other liberal policies. After that, there weren't a lot of people here declaring that they wouldn't vote for Romney, and if there were, they would have been told the same thing, that they were voting for Obama.
So you like to create a false premise and then use it to bash Trump or his supporters, or this site, even as you claim to be so graciously willing to cast your measly vote for Trump, grudgingly. Then deny that those nevertrumpers out there support HIllary.
Give it a rest. Opus out or figure out how to support Trump, but this continued desire for something in between is getting old.
Frankly, I really don't know the answer to your question. Could it be that Rubio attacked Cruz based on political differences (even though specious) during the campaign? While Trump attacked Cruz and his family with nasty, personal insults?
Maybe that's it...
I’ve already unequivocally stated that I’m supporting Trump.
Liar. You continually attempt to depress support for Trump here by justifing Cruz’s divisive actions. You are just trolling here. Like your beloved Saint Rafael of Goldman there is nothing principled or conservative about you. Your support of Cruz’s post primary anti-Trump tantrum shows once again why Ted Cruz lost the primary and why he will never win national office. Of course you don’t realize that because loving eyes can never see.
Cruz gave a media availability specifically to frag Trump on the Mexican judge nonsense. He’s no better than Ryan who did the same.

Cruz attacked Trump supporters directly and called us “low info”. Cruz used the occasion of conservatives being assaulted in Chicago to attack Trump. That is disgusting behavior by Cruz. And you are just fine with it. That says a lot about Ted Cruz and you, frankly.
You are wildly confused. Whether or not a person holds Mexican citizenship does not depend on the US. Mexico gave Curiel his Mexican citizenship, and the US cannot take it away.
How did the Dallas Morning News know, with absolute certitude, yet WITHOUT access to Cruz immigration file, that Cruz was a NBC of Canada?
Let’s focus on opposing Clinton. She is a threat to American independent. Let’s be more magnanimous and pray. Pray without ceasing that God will be merciful and gracious to use Donald Trump to defeat Hillary Clinton in the coming election and that there will be peace among people of good will.
That's not the point. Mexico can do what it wants. But it has no effect on Curiel's American citizenship.
My point stands: Curiel is an American citizen. What you think -- and what Mexico thinks -- cut no ice.
You can blame Allen West for Murphy.
West choked and Murphy beat West by only 2,100 votes. West could have won but he had a bit of a manpower problem because he mistreated some of his best campaign workers and they didn't work for him in 2012.
West could have easily picked up the 2,000 votes, but when you're as arrogant and overrated as West is, you can't afford tp piss anybody off, but he did.
West also cut a deal with Rubio to get out of FL, but that's whole whole other thread.
Ready for a lesson in citizenship law? You won't learn anything, but perhaps other readers will.
Cruz was born in Canada. Under Canadian citizenship law, that made him eligible for Canadian citizenship.
But, because his mom was an American citizen (there is no evidence to the contrary, just unsupported speculation), he was an American citizen-at-birth.
Accordingly, upon reaching his majority, he was eligible to claim what amounted to a dormant Canadian citizenship. He did not. Consequently, he remained an American citizen.
Again, American citizenship laws are unaffected by Canadian citizenship laws.
Sex night ?
Do facts exist in the world of Cruz supporters, or is it all bombast? Trump called a Mexican citizen a Mexican. Trump merely stated a fact. Instead of instantly making a statement to undermine Trump, Cruz might for once have spoken for Americans. How about this:
‘Judge Curiel is a member of LaRaza. LaRaza’s slogan is, “For the race, everything; for those outside the race, nothing.”
‘It is legitimate for Trump to wonder if the judge, who is a Mexican citizen, will treat Trump fairly, since he belongs to a racist organization that openly states it wants people like Trump to get nothing.’
People would have loved Cruz for that. His unwillingness to side with Americans, however, is one reason he lost.
Btw, please answer my question re the Dallas Morning News and Cruz’ Natural Born Canadian citizenship. It’s unseemly for you to keep ignoring it.
You dodged the question. The Dallas Morning News reported in August 2014 that Cruz was, at that time, a Canadian citizen. The DMN was correct. How did they KNOW they’d be correct, without access to Cruz’ immigration files?
It was Rubio’s campaign who was leaking the insinuations about Cruz’s affairs, not Trump.
No, they were incorrect.
While Canada might've had him listed as a citizen, because he was born there, he had not taken the steps necessary to claim that citizenship upon reaching his majority. Consequently, Cruz was an American citizen. Period. It made no difference what errant Canadian records might say.
The DMN's flawed report required that Cruz formally renounce his Canadian citizenship eligibility -- but it wasn't really necessary.
