A suicide car bombing claimed by Isil killed at least 75 people in a Baghdad shopping district in the early hours of Sunday, officials said, the deadliest single attack in the capital this year.
The blast, which ripped through a street in the Karrada area where many people go to shop ahead of the holiday marking the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, also wounded more than 130 people, security and medical officials said.
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) issued a statement claiming the suicide car bombing, saying it was carried out by an Iraqi as part of the group's "ongoing security operations".
The jihadist group said the bombing targeted members of Iraq's Shia Muslim majority, whom it considers heretics and frequently attacks in Baghdad and elsewhere.
The bombing came a week after Iraqi forces completely recaptured Fallujah, a city 50 kilometres (30 miles) west of Baghdad that was a key Isil stronghold.

If we want to hold people and extended families responsible whenever this sort of sh!t happens, we ought to start with the Bush family and work from there.
Coming to all of us soon if the Witch gets elected. Remember, anybody can buy lots of ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel. Then all he needs is a detonator, which can be easily smuggled in. Then, BANG!!!
America needs to wake up and realize that enemy number one is Saudi Arabia, a country which finances many of the important madrasas at which these monsters are indoctrinated and trained. The problem is that too much Big Money is tied up in Saudi interests — a bipartisan evil — so will that waking up ever happen?
No such entity, but I bet ISIS claimed responsibility.
And Hillary does not lie.
We in the Christian world look forward to the Christmas season when people are more friendly and the talk is about love and hope and helping each other. Ramadamadingdong, on the other head, is about murdering innocent people. I’ll stick with Christianity.
Not bad for a JV team.
Even if you wipe out ISIS, some other group will emerge, it’s a game of “Whack-A-Mole”.
I know. CNN mentioned it this morning, but if this had happened in a country outside of the middle east or maybe parts of Africa, it would have been wall to wall media coverage. It’s sad because the article indicates a lot of children were killed.
When this happened, CNN was still all over the Bangledesh attack. Hardly a mention of the latest ISIS handiwork.
Yep. Maybe because it’s not as common in Bangladesh and/or foreigners were involved? Sad because I think this is a big deal.
Exactly! Is the world finally waking up to the Satanic cult?
Twitter is reporting a suicide bomber was stopped (and killed and/or blown up) outside the US Consulate in Jeddah. I can’t find any news articles on it (yet) to post.

Even worse. Very sad.
And yet these monsters want to destroy the Saudi government as much as you do.
But the Saudis are doing their part to control them or to contain the spread of murderous, suicidal theology. We are complicit in empowering that, and that complicity is bipartisan and has been maintained through many administrations. A stain on our nation, our history and our conscience. Why does candidate after candidate keep identifying the wrong countries as the enemy? Weren’t 13 of the 19 911 hijackers Saudi?
I think a better solution would be to kill them, and keep killing them until the ones that remain stop fighting.
