Our organizations and many others have called on Congress to provide the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with funding for research into the causes and prevention of gun violence. In addition, we published a joint editorial on gun violence in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

These unspeakable acts highlight gun violence as a grim and increasing public health epidemic that kills approximately 91 Americans every day. THIS MUST STOP.

True, the illegal drug industry leads to a lot of violence, as well as deaths from drug overdoses.

One of the driving forces behind the current opioid epidemic is poor management of prescription opioid drugs and patients with chronic pain. And the very people whose work lead to a lot of those problems are busy writing editorials about firearms instead of working to develop better pain treatment methods and reduce the use of opioid drugs.

These professional groups of physicians should focus on the problems they created and try to do something about them.

My experience with medical care tells me that you have a 50/50 chance of dealing with a liberal quack who will lie to you, embellish what he did for you, overbill you and invite his fellow quacks to send you bills that had nothing to do with your care. I used to hold doctors in high regard.

In September of 2012, I was being evaluated for a medical procedure, and while being tested for blood pressures, the doctor pierced the subclavian(?) artery to my brain, giving me a right brain stroke, and paralyzing my left hand. I am left with a speech impediment,permanent brain damage, and a left hand that has no remaining strength or dexterity. So, when any doctor recommends anything as being good for my health I feel like telling them all to go stick it where the sun doesn't shine.
