Cops alarmed by increase in roadwork site crashes

Nearly 900 reckless drivers crashed through a work zone
on a Bay State road or highway last year ...
a 35-percent spike that has the state police colonel
stepping up patrols amid fears the deadly wrecks are
only going to climb ...

State police also handed out 529 work-zone driving
citations last year ...
McKeon said he can’t pinpoint an exact reason for the spike
[BUT later noted]
... The latest crash came around 3:10 a.m. yesterday,
when police say 29-year-old Maria Nunes-Daveiga
— whose driving record spans four pages and 38 entries —
drunkenly drove her 2007 Jeep into the back
of a Bristol County sheriff’s van ... on Route 24

... “It’s dangerous for the detail officers
that are out there.
It’s dangerous for the construction workers”

“The problem is not just the lanes going down from three to one, but also people texting, fixing their makeup and reading the paper,” he added.

...

Among the victims of the hellish highway trend this week was Thomas O’Day, a highway worker and father of six, who was struck and killed in Medford early Tuesday while picking up cones at an Interstate 93 job site that did not include a detail cop — a fact he complained about hours earlier in a chilling Facebook post.

Facebook nation. Texting highway workers being killed by texting drivers.

Translation ... the usual drunks, an inordinate amount of road construction sites = more construction site accidents

Take away the construction sites and allow lemonade stands and voila !

Cops baffled by increased lemonade stand car accidents

Here, let me help ya. The government is ripping up roads everywhere. They are shrinking car lanes, inserting sidewalk jetties, roundabouts, and bending straight roads all under the guise of "Smart Growth," a socialists dream They call it "traffic calming." It's real purpose is to frustrate your driving experience to encourage you to use public transportation or use bicycles. More roadwork equals more road construction accidents.

A work zone crash is almost always going to be attributable to one of two factors:

1. Driver error.

2. Poorly laid out work zones.

I'm sure the first one is the biggest factor by a wide margin. Studies consistently show that as a nation we have become worse drivers ... at the same time we are increasingly distracted (sometimes out of our control) behind the wheel.

I’m pretty sure work-zone accidents nationwide are declining. Seems likely Mass. is leaving out critical info.

... as a nation we have become worse drivers...

How much of the changing 'average' is due to the skyrocketing number of drivers who did not spend time driving on American roads until they had already become entitled adults with a bad attitude toward America in general?

Believe it or not, I think the cars are as much a problem as the drivers. Cars have become so comfortable and advanced, and have so many automated features in them, that they can easily be operated by someone who isn’t paying full attention to what they are doing.

I remember when accidents there were blamed on the number of orange cones, then they used orange barrels.

Believe someone wrote an article about the cost of barrels that were being destroyed.

Between the Big Dig, 495 and 128, the cost of oil probably went up $2.00 per barrel back then.

As a pedestrian you learn to trust no one’s driving. Certain demographics will try to run you down, or try to make you believe they will. Puts a skip in your step.

Maria Nunes-Daveiga Well that might be a clue right there. Sanctuary state, illegals driving drunk = more crashes.

That same demographic, as pedestrians, at the blink of an eye will step out in front of you, as if they own the road.

Go ahead, hit one, they have their lawyers on speed dial.

This one was drunk. Drunks have always been very dangerous drivers, especially the hardcore ones that drive early morning.
