Donald Trumps campaign has begun formally vetting possible running mates, with former House speaker Newt Gingrich emerging as the leading candidate, followed by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. But there are more than a half-dozen others being discussed as possibilities, according to several people with knowledge of the process.
Given Trumps unpredictability, campaign associates caution that the presumptive Republican nominee could still shake up his shortlist. But with little more than two weeks before the start of the Republican National Convention, Gingrich and Christie have been asked to submit documents and are being cast as favorites for the post inside the campaign. Gingrich in particular is the beneficiary of a drumbeat of support from Trump confidants such as Ben Carson...

*BOWS* ;)
It’s hard to win up here being pro 2nd amendment. But that’s no excuse, you’re right.
I did vote or Giuliani knowing he was one but we needed our city back!!
And to be pragmatic, it had NO CHANCE with the rest of NYC government.
Romney supposedly vetted Christie and concluded he was a nightmare. Which is why Trump might take a chance on him.
It’s a bit of a long shot, but Christie might be able to bring along NJ.
It is going to be a surprise and at the same time it will be obviously the best choice. So that means Senator Jeff Sessions.
If it’s Christie, you lose!!!
Ditto
Like Trump, Christie is a fighter. He really did a number on Marco in the debates.
No Trump press credentials. They’re reduced to writing speculative pieces about Trump so they can continue to sell their dreck.
Christie needs to be at the DOJ. Newt or Sessions for VP.
IMO - he can do better
With direction, I think Christie could be a good AG or federal prosecutor. Don’t quite trust his judgment enough to put him on a ticket, at least not yet.
Not sure if two northeasterners would make a good ticket for the shallower appeal either.
Having said that, he DID impress me enough when he took out Rubio that I’m willing to let him out of the doghouse on 2012’s Obama lovefest and give him the chance to impress me.
Whatever Christie “may” bring in, it will be considerably less than he drives off.
Consider the source and move on
There are a couple things about Rand Paul that make me a bit hesitant, but you do make a good case.
Don’t worry people will say the same thing they always when they pick a VP , “What was he thinking”
Like I said earlier, Christie is a fighter (like Trump).
If there is one thing the GOP desperately needs, it’s people who fight.
New York and New Jersey - not a good idea
I will still vote for Trump, but quite reluctantly. Forget Gingrich. I would never vote for him; I may vote in spite of him.
He is the personification of the go along to get along ass***e in the eunuch GOPe legislature.
His photo with the main House *itch, Nancy Whatshername, is engraved on my mind forever.
I keep hoping that Trump has better sense; or gets better advisors...
