The US sailors who were detained by the Iranian navy last winter provided their name, rank and serial numbers - and pretty much everything else their captors demanded, the US Navy said in a blistering report Thursday.
The 10 crew members, captured at gunpoint in the Persian Gulf on Jan. 12 by Irans Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, improperly revealed passwords for laptops and cellphones and even sensitive technical details about their two ships, including their top speed, capabilities and missions, the report said.

The Navy report blamed the incident on a combination of poor planning, clueless leaders who did not properly consider how risky their actions were, a lack of crew oversight and low morale.

I agree, with Obama in charge, we are being distracted from something he did for the Iranians, even more than he has already done.
You don’t have to serve in the military to have common sense. If those boats were not armed they should have been. A show of force might have backed those Iranians off til backup arrived.
You don’t have to be in the military to have enough Backbone to at least wait til you have actually been knocked around a little to blab your guts out. That’s not a suicide pact Gramps that’s what you are supposed to do in the military. Fight, resist, evade, escape whatever. Not boo boo on camera and sit around eating and smiling. It was a disgrace.
And I have my doubts as I stated before that this story is on the up and up. More likely something else was at play here which we will never know about. Its almost too bizarre to be true.
They were in Iranian hands for what, less than two days? While I sympathize that they may have gone through some horrible things, it's not like they held out for any extended amount of time. And the report makes it sound like at least one of their commanders told them to tell the Iranians everything they wanted to know. I think about what our boys held by the Vet Cong went through, and this just makes me sick.
How about some sensitivity training towards Christians?
Ooops, sorry. I thought I was posting on another article about wanting to remove “God Bless America” from baseball games.
I agree. I hate McCain for his politics but I know I could not have stood what he went through as a POW.
Well, I know that most U-Boats carries a Lloyds of London maritime book showing all the world’s merchant vessels (practically all were insured by the company). Rather convenient for ID-ing your potential target. I rather doubt they had time-sensitive info like accurate cargo manifests. Even if Intel could get that stuff, just getting it to the U-boat skipper before he sailed? Seems unlikely.
Why would he need it before he sailed? They communicated via Enigma, didn’t they?
His nose screams alcoholic? Genuinely curious? How so?
The Brits rolled up the entire German spy net in the UK almost immediately after the declaration of war. Who was going to feed the information Germany?
Most of what did get thru was false information fed thru German spies that were turned. The German Army thought the US Army had scores more combat divisions in theater than we actually had due to counter-espionage activities.
Plus, radio communications with U-Boats were sort of like a film loop because you never knew when the boat you wanted to talk to would actually be on the surface to receive. The point is once you flush Intel down the channels, it gets analyzed, distributed, sent & (maybe) received, the convoy has sailed.
I believe these were just business relationships, not specifically a spy ring set up to do this. Imagine we both work for Microsoft - you in India and me in Red China - and we continue sharing information even as the two countries go to war. The people in England initially might not have even understood the reason behind information requests that were betraying the ships’ cargoes.
What you describe would be particularly true of neutrals like Sweden & Switzerland. Which had business relations with both sides.
Yes, that makes sense.
It’s court MARTIAL. If you can’t even spell it right you really can’t demand one
