Democrats aren't happy about the "wrong signal" telegraphed by a private meeting between Attorney General Loretta Lynch who's overseeing the probe into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's private email server and Bill Clinton.
In a rare rebuke of the presumptive nominee by a member of her own party, Delaware Democratic Sen. Chris Coons sharply criticized the meeting between the prosecutor and former president.
"I don't think it sends the right signal," he tells CNN's "New Day" program in an interview Thursday. "I think she should have steered clear even of a brief, casual, social meeting with the former president."
David Axelord, a former adviser to both Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama, was even more pointed, calling the meeting "foolish."
Lynch has explained she and the former president talked about grandchildren, and described the meeting as "primarily social."
She also denied discussion the email probe or House Benghazi panel's investigation, which was released the day after their meeting.
Another ex-adviser to Bill Clinton, pollster Doug Schoen, tells Fox News the former president "was in his own way taking the temperature of the attorney general, not alleging that there was any impropriety."
But, he adds, "given the timing, this was a meeting that probably best shouldn't have been held."
Coons, as well, said he thinks Lynch "has generally shown excellent judgment and strong leadership of the department, and I'm convinced that she's an independent attorney general."
"But I do think that this meeting sends the wrong signal," he asserted.
Two other top Democrats rushed to Lynch's defense.
"No one can ever question [Lynch's] strong feelings about the rule of the law. And her ethics, I repeat, are the best," declared Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, Politico reports.

Hey guy. I hope you are doing well.
Good to see your moniker.

Would he have been using a rectal thermometer?
And Lynch returned the complement with a penile plethysmography device.
No, it sent the RIGHT signal to Americans that both are brazen criminals who have contempt for the citizenry and the rule of law.
So Harry Reid vouches for her? Who wants to vouch for Harry Reid?
GWB, gave the Clinton’s a pass when he took office. I will lose respect for Trump if he doesn’t at least order his AG and staff to not drop the ball on all the cases that he (Obama) stonewalled.
And now the emails aren’t coming out until 2018...a couple of days after that meeting? I don’t think even our DO NOTHING CONGRESS can let this continue...or they are ALL part of it...and WE KNOW IT.
I mean, it’s not like either Bill or Lynch has a history of lying or hedging the truth, is it?
I will not mourn his passing.
You gotta be some kind of special idiot to think otherwise.
Bubba reminded Lynch-em-with-love that her career was over if Hitlery was not Pres__ent.
I think it’s about damn time we send a “signal” that we are fed up with all this BS.
I just watched a flippant, cavalier, arrogant jeh johnson being questioned by Senator Cruz.
FU jeh!
Just think of this! They could have arranged to meet on the golf course instead of at the airport. She looked so great in that dress with wide stripes showing off her huge hips. Think of how great she would have looked swinging a golf club. Why do democrat women have such horrible dress sense? Or no sense? Maybe Clinton just likes hippy women?
What are the physical facts?
How did Clinton know she was there?
Was she on official business? When was here schedule known? Was it public? How did Clinton get it?
Who called who?
Did Clinton think that no one would find out? Was that the idea, stealth?
How did the local press find out?
This was more than an accident, it was coordinated.
Bill O’Reilly just had the Phoenix news guy on. He said they got the word and were ready to go with the story even before the press conference was given...No cameras, no reporters were allowed, she was being covered by FBI. Everyone was escorted off “her” plane and Clinton got on.
I found it interesting that Lynch’s answer to the question about the meeting was, “We met at the airport and talked about yada yada yada” without batting an eyelash. You just don’t start telling someone something and OFFER to tell what you were talking to the other person about before questions are even asked. That was as they say a “tell.” You might say “we met at the airport and had a pleasant conversation.” That would be the time to fill in if you so desired or thought it necessary.
I was disgusted with Greta’s coverage earlier as she pretends to be outraged and at the same time said that she knows neither Clinton or Lynch would have inappropriately discussed the investigation(s)....Then why the outrage, Greta. If it’s optics, so what? Outrage would only make sense if you BELIEVED they DID discuss the ongoing investigations into one crook’s crooked wife...you wouldn’t be bothered by the optics otherwise.
Slick just wanted to remind Loretta that she is nothing more than a lowly government employee and that there will be some new Arkansas massas in the White House who will be running this joint in January.
Rest assured that Bill Clinton sent EXACTLY the message
that he intended to send to Loretta Lynch.
NBC News this evening covered this controversy and assured the public that there was nothing fishy or even criminal going on.
They consulted an expert, “David Axelrod,” who said he trusts Clinton and Lynch - just the “optics” weren’t good. Interestingly, they didn’t get around to saying anything at all about who “David Axelrod” is.
“Attorney General Lynch” is a pretty strong subliminal message in itself ...
Sending the wrong signal? Yeh I’d say so.
